WWE used the promise of a major announcement to promote this week’s episode of SmackDown, the second to last before the show goes live on Tuesday night’s on July 19. That announcement was who would be wrestling Brock Lesnar in a featured match at SummerSlam on Sun., Aug. 21, 2016, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
It turns out the rumors were true and Randy Orton is the lucky star who will be doing the honors.
Orton has been out of action dating back to October of last year when he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery. He went under the knife in December and has been recovering ever since. It’s been expected that he would return to television at any time.
There was no announcement of when “The Viper” might return to WWE television but obviously that will happen sooner rather than later.
