Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura officially announced for NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn

NXT officially set-up the top match for their next live event, August 20’s TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn... Samoa Joe defending his NXT title against Shinsuke Nakamura.

It was all but official when Nakamura defeated Finn Bálor two weeks ago, but tonight it was revealed in an angle which makes it clear Joe would rather not face the King of Strong Style - despite his loudly proclaiming his superiority over the wrestling world.

The champ tried to justify not accepting the bout, made by General Manager William Regal, on the grounds the Japanese Superstar hadn’t “earned” the opportunity the way he had to when he signed with WWE last year. Regal threatened to strip him of the belt if he didn’t accept however, and NXT’s latest dream match is set.

It will be interesting to see what direction Creative takes with the outcome of what should be a hard-hitting, crowd-pleasing affair. Both men are ready for the main roster (and aren’t getting any younger) and the NXT audience will be looking for signs one or both of them will be heading to Raw or SmackDown Live by the end of 2016.

So far this is the only confirmed match for a show which will take place on the eve of SummerSlam. Bayley did request a shot at Asuka’s Women’s title, but that hasn’t been confirmed in kayfabe yet.
