WWE NXT preview (July 27, 2016): Other heats

It's the first episode from the July 13 Full Sail taping (spoilers for which are here), where TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn’s card was really set-up. Here's what to expect from the show.

The Headliner(s)

Let’s be honest. You don’t need to have read spoiler reports to figure out where NXT is going with the singles title feuds for Brooklyn. With Bayley’s win over Nia Jax last week (and announcement she’s not sticking on the main roster right now) and Shinsuke Nakamura’s the week prior (and it being very clear Finn Bálor is sticking on Raw - and in SummerSlam’s main event), there’s not much suspense about the match-ups.

You can count on this show to give us a little more context, however... or at least some great segments with General Manager William Regal. They’ve announced we’ll get some clarity on Bayley vs. Asuka II for the Women’s title this evening, which makes sense since the Hugster’s stated reason for Battleground being a “one-time thing” was her quest to regain that belt.

Will they go ahead and announce Nakamura’s shot at Samoa Joe’s NXT championship? The self-proclaimed Emperor has already explained why he doesn’t think the King of Strong Style deserves it. Will Shinsuke or Regal present a counter argument?

The Title Scene

That only leaves one other belt, or set thereof, unaccounted for: the tag straps held by The Revival. Dash & Dawson not only took credit for softening up American Alpha for the Authors of Pain, but they declared themselves head and shoulders about every other tandem in the world. Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano disagreed - and have a win over the champs to prove it. Will anyone else stake a claim to a title shot?

Other stuff to keep an eye on:

- With the wave of call-ups (aka draft picks), it’s time for NXT to make some new stars. Some of those will come from the Performance Center. Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Ember Moon, Nikki Glencross, Oney Lorcan and Hugo Knox are just a few names who come to mind.

- Some will be veteran names getting steady work on house shows (Bobby Roode), others from the Cruiserweight Classic (some definitely already signed, like Rich Swann; others only rumored to be, like Kota Ibushi).

- Meanwhile, we would really like to hear from Paul Ellering about those Authors of Pain...

- And Austin Aries can’t be thrilled with the beating No Way Jose put on him last week. Not that A-Double didn’t deserve it, but the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived won’t take an attack from a newcomer any better than he did Jose’s advice.

NOTE: Spoilers are out there for these pre-taped broadcasts (including here), but many Cagesiders don't partake. If you are going to post or discuss spoilers for this show before they happen, or results of future shows, please use the spoiler bar in your comment.

See you tonight for NXT, Cagesiders!
