WWE announces ‘Universal championship’ to become top Raw title

Tonight’s (July 25, 2016) episode of Monday Night Raw in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania opened with Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley announcing the red brand would get its own top title after Dean Ambrose took the WWE championship back to SmackDown Live.

It will be called the “Universal championship.”

The first champion will be crowned at SummerSlam when Seth Rollins takes on the winner of the main event of tonight’s episode of Raw. They booked two Fatal 4-Way matches with the winners of each meeting in the aforementioned main event.

We’ll update with a photo of the new title, and who will be wrestling for it, once that information becomes available.
