We knew there would be six picks from the NXT roster at tonight’s (July 19, 2016) WWE Draft but we didn’t know who they would be or when they would be be drafted. The first of the six was announced early, as Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon drafted Finn Balor to Monday Night Raw with their third pick (number five overall).
This ends a two-year run in NXT that saw Balor break the record for most consecutive days as champion, ending at 292 days, and headlining multiple Takeover events. There was nothing left for him to do in the developmental promotion and there was no better time to bring him up to the main roster than for the brand split.
He’ll get plenty of chance to shine on the three-hour program, likely as one of its top stars if his draft positioning is any indication.
Either way, Finn Balor has finally been called up.
