News got around earlier today that the domestic assault charges against Jerry Lawler and his fiance have been dropped. This comes a couple weeks after the two were arrested following an altercation at their home in Memphis. In response to the situation, Lawler was immediately suspended by WWE pending the outcome of the case.
Now that charges have been dropped, his suspension has been lifted, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet. What’s more, he’ll make his return to his regular role as color commentator on SmackDown starting next week in Toledo, Ohio.
David Otunga, who was recently promoted to the same position on Superstars and Main Event, had been filling in for him.
There are only two episodes of SmackDown remaining before the show goes live on July 19 with a special WWE draft edition. There’s no word on whether commentary teams will be switched up but it’s at least possible. Perhaps all this will be moot come then anyway.
For now, Lawler is back.
How do you feel about that?
