As reported by fans in attendance at NXT's live show in Nashville this past Friday night (June 3), Elias Samson's match with Andrade "Cien" Almas was stopped when The Drifter landed awkwardly on his left leg and was unable to stand on it.
The referee signaled the 'X' to the back, and trainers helped Samson exit the ring area.
Today WWE.com has both confirmed the injury and provided more detail, writing that Samson fractured his left ankle:
“The match had to be stopped due to the injury and Elias was helped to the back, unable to bear weight on the ankle,” WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com. “Elias will be put in a cast and crutches, but is expected to make a full recovery.”
Recovery time will depend on whether or not there was ligament or tendon damage, but we shouldn't expect to see Elias and his guitar play their way into a ring for a couple of months.
We'll keep you updated on any other details, and send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to The Drifter.
