AJ Styles doesn't need The Club to win with smarks

Logo-S3

Everybody who comes to Cageside Seats has an opinion about what's going on in pro wrestling - The Smark's Shoot Standings (S3) are where YOU let us know YOURS.

Cast a vote in the comments. Give us the four performers you think entertained or impressed the most in the last week, and feel free to talk about why. And/or vote for your top performer in our poll.

We also have the outcome of last week's voting, the results of which make up our annual competition for Performer of the Year.

Remember, the Standings are for the previous week's nationally televised and internet streaming pro wrestling shows - the May 30 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, Tuesday's TNA Impact, Wednesday's Lucha Underground, WWE NXT and ROH TV, Thursday's SmackDown, New Japan's Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and any other internet streaming wrestling that aired from May 29 - June 4, 2016.

Make YOUR mark, smarks!

Just when I thought I was get to use a picture of someone else for only the third time this year...

...instead, here's they guy who's won all but two weeks this year from a weird Gears of War tie-in TNA did when they still had a million people watching them each week.

  • Yep, the Architect looked like he was gonna slide into the S3 like it was 2014, but Phenomenal Phever caught him in the end.
  • Our top three were the three players from Extreme Rules' main event, as even supposed smark loathing of the WWE champ can't keep you from voting for him after that match.
  • The Intercontinental title match from that pay-per-view (PPV) also made an impression, with all four dudes placing.
  • Even though nobody was talking about it all on the internet, you still managed to track down the obscure match between the former hair stylist for Billy & Chuck and... some other guy (never heard of him myself - we're forbidden from watching Japan in the Cageside offices)... from Best of the Super Juniors.
  • A Smacktalker Skywalker returned, and the seven year reign of the new United States champion began.

The S3: 2016-17, Week 8

1. AJ Styles
2. Seth Rollins
3.
Roman Reigns
4. Kevin Owens
5. Miz
6. Cesaro
7. Ricochet
8. Sami Zayn
9. Will Ospreay
10. (tie) Enzo Amore
10. (tie) Rusev

Points in our weekly Standings determine our annual list - full details on rules and scoring HERE.

Should be interesting to see what the brand split does to folks ballots, but right now, AJ is a constant on just about everyone's. And that leads to this...

The S3 Performer of the Year - through the Week Ending May 28

1. AJ Styles - 78 points
2. Kevin Owens - 47
3. Roman Reigns - 39
4. Cesaro - 35.5
5. Sami Zayn - 18.5
6. (tie) Enzo Amore - 18
6. (tie) Cage - 18
8. (tie) Dean Ambrose - 17
8. (tie) Colin Cassady - 17
10. Miz - 13

Kind of a slow week, at least compared to the past couple, but still lots to consider. Let us know what you thought of Raw, Impact, NXT, Smackdown, Lucha Underground, New Japan, EVOLVEROH or whatever other internet streaming pro graps you checked out over the past seven days!
