It's the last episode from the June 9 Full Sail taping (spoilers for which are here) which will start building from TakeOver: The End... Here's what to expect from the show.
The Headliner
While NXT has delivering a couple of entertaining episodes, they’ve largely done so without their champions.
The men who at The End... became the first ever two-time tag champs in the brand’s history got a promo from after that live show played a couple weeks back, but otherwise haven’t been seen. WWE is promising that will change tonight, as The Revival’s first program of their second reign should be determined.
You have to imagine previous champs American Alpha will get another shot. Not sure how those contracts are written when you lose the belts back to guys exercising their rematch clause, but no one who watched either of their TakeOver bouts doesn’t want to see more of Chad Gable & Jason Jordan fighing Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder.
The previous champs may need and/or want to settle things with Paul Ellering’s Authors of Pain first. Those two hosses won their debut match and probably aren’t interested in waiting too long for a title shot. TM61 also have a win under their belts from the last couple of weeks, and the men who beat them in their debut, Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa, might want a chance at tag gold before heading off the Cruiserweight Classic.
NXT’s tag division is stacked right now. This should be fun.
The Title Scene
Much like Dash & Dawson, we’ve seen NXT champ Samoa Joe via his post-TakeOver speech being replayed on June 15 and a hype video they showed last week. He’s probably waiting for the outcome of July 13’s Finn Bálor/Shinsuke Nakamura match, but it’d be nice if we saw him get in a tune-up before he’s booked to face the winner of that one.
Women’s champ Asuka has been even more in the shadows. Her only appearance has been a recap of the TakeOver win against Nia Jax they used to set-up Jax’s destruction of Liv Morgan last week. We do know that in addition to Nia and the recently cleared Bayley, Carmella & Alexa Bliss would love a title opportunity, and they’ll be squaring off against each other tonight with that in mind.
Other stuff to keep an eye on:
- No more Mr. Nice Guy from Austin Aries. Despite showing off some surpringly decent dance moves, the Greatest Man That Ever Lived sent a message to the NXT locker room when he assaulted No Way Jose last week. The fun-loving Dominican has shown flashes of temper before, and he’ll surely be calling his shot against A-Double soon.
- Despite a couple wins over Tye Dillinger (who seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis), Andrade “Cien” Almas’ debut is off to a controversial start. Facing someone other than the Perfect Ten may be a way to turn things around for the luchador.
- We finally got a look at Oney Lorcan when he defeated Dillinger last week. Now, will this be the night we meet Ember Moon?
