WWE SmackDown spoilers (June 23, 2016): Seth Rollins in action

WWE.com

WWE SmackDown returns to the USA Network this coming Thursday night (June 24, 2016) from Tucson, Arizona but the show was taped, as usual, on Tuesday. That means full spoilers are readily available if you're the impatient type who doesn't want to wait a couple days for the payoff.

Unwrap that present early*:

  • Roman Reigns suspension is never mentioned, despite some “Where is Roman?” chants throughout the night. He is still listed on Battleground graphics shown in the arena.

  • Mixed reports on whether David Otunga replaced Jerry Lawler for the entire night, or if SmackDown was covered with a two-man booth of Mauro Ranallo & Byron Saxton.

  • Seth Rollins opens the show with an in-ring promo, but is interupted by Sami Zayn. WWE champ Dean Ambrose appears for an improvised edition of his talk show, which sets up Rollins vs. Zayn as our main event.

  • Cesaro def. Alberto Del Rio

  • Sheamus beat Apollo Crews via countout

  • Backstage segment involving The Usos and The Club sets up AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Uso

  • Styles def. Uso in a match where Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows got involved but didn’t factor in the end result.

  • New Day def. Vaudevillains. Bray Wyatt delivered a message to the champs from the big screen afterwards.

  • Conflicting reports on the Women’s division match: Dana Brooke faced Becky Lynch, but one set of reports claims Dana won by roll-up because Charlotte distracted Lynch, another says Becky won by DQ because Charlotte interfered.

  • Sasha Banks then showed up, but whether she helped Becky chase off the champ before delivering a Banks Statement to Brooke, or stared down the champ before hitting her finisher on Lynch, is in dispute.

  • Rollins def. Zayn via pinfall following a Pedigree. Ambrose was on commentary but didn’t get involved.

That's the show. You watching?

* NOTE: There’s word of false spoiler reports circulating. These are a combination of Wrestling Observer & PWInsider’s versions, two of the most reputable sources in this crazy business, and match with WWE’s advertising of a Seth Rollins main event. We’ll update as things get sorted out.
