WWE SmackDown preview (June 16, 2016): Awkwardness

I don’t play well with others on tumblr

Tonight's episode of SmackDown was filmed on Tuesday night in Biloxi, Mississippi. We've got a spoiler report for you here. If you just want to get ready for the show without knowing who wins and loses, read on!

The Headliner

Tonight’s show is the final television of any import we’ll see before Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV). And while the match which gives that show its name won’t be the main event in Las Vegas, expect it to get a lot of play tonight.

We’ve been through just about every iteration of singles and tag match between the six men who will battle for the briefcase containing a contract good for a WWE championship match at a time and place of their choosing.

Tonight, we’re going back an oldie but a goodie. Heels vs. Faces. Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens & Alberto Del Rio vs. Sami Zayn, Cesaro & Dean Ambrose.

Expect chaos to breakout, and one man who probably won’t win on Sunday to stand tall after everyone turns on everyone else. Or Ambrose to look really good, because they sure want us thinking he might turn the briefcase in really quickly to take on one of his brothers.

The Title Scene

Those brothers are WWE World Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and the #1 contender, Seth Rollins. Dean got the better of both of them during his talk show face-off between the two men who’ll battle at the top of the show on Sunday. They probably won’t be around tonight, but you’ll see replays of that run-in.

Like the Intercontinental title, the Women’s belt won’t be on the line at Money in the Bank. Unlike Miz’s championship (off shooting a movie with the A-Lister), however, queen Charlotte will be partnering up with her new muscle Dana Brooke against her old foes Becky Lynch & Natalya. Dana accidentally cost the champ her match with Paige on Monday; something she’ll probably be looking to atone for when Charlotte and Natty lock up tonight.

Tag champs The New Day have their hands full on Sunday, with their titles on the line in a fourway against Enzo Amore & Big Cass, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows and the Vaudevillains. Hopefully Xavier is over those allegations of secret love between Zo & Frankie 2.

Rusev is working toward his mission of keeping the United States title forever (or for seven years). Titus O’Neil doesn’t like the way he disrespects America. They’re gonna fight.

Other stuff to keep an eye on:

- AJ Styles thinks he’s gonna wrestle circles around John Cena, but we’re gonna have to wait for Sunday to see that, since we know the Face That Runs the Place was elsewhere on Tuesday night.

- The McMahons will likely also be too busy to appear, but maybe someone like Corporate Kane can stop by and update us on the brand split?

- The Pre-Show is gonna be lit, fam! Now maybe they’ll find a way to freshen up the third PPV match between Dolph Ziggler & Baron Corbin - or actually have Apollo Crews and Sheamus interact more than once en route to Money in the Bank?

(Note: I know some folks have come looking for a more definitive match listing - that will be posted behind spoiler text in the comments. If WWE.com releases more information on anything that's officially going to take place on tonight's show, that'll be updated here)

See you tonight for SmackDown!
