WWE’s back in the town that brought you WrestleMania 30 tonight. With what might Raw from New Orleans surprise us?
The Headliner
Remember when Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose used to pal around together? Folks seemed to like that.
There’s a reunion of sorts planned for tonight, but it’s not exactly gonna go down the way you may have been fantasy booking it. Despite the segment for Raw being a talk show segment hosted by a guy we’re still not sure should have a talk show, it could still lead to the Triple Threat everybody wants to see.
Sunday’s upcoming match between current and past WWE World Heavyweight champs Reigns and Rollins started well, with a build kicked off by the Architect returning from injury to punish the Big Dog right after he defeated AJ Styles. But then it devolved into what felt like pranks before regaining the big fight feel with last week’s hype videos.
Having them guest star on the Ambrose Asylum could be a step back toward Seth pretending he’s going to attack Roman, but Dean will be doing more than just holding a microphone. He’s headed into the pay-per-view (PPV) with an opportunity to claim the Money in the Bank briefcase - and with it a match against whoever wins in Las Vegas this weekend.
And while we ponder the potential one-on-one and threeway matches the former Hounds of Justice could have, let’s also keep our ears open to hear how the boys address Rollins’ betrayal and the paths they’ve all walked since.
They used to be the best thing on WWE screens. It seems weird they could recapture that magic with the Lunatic Fringe playing Jimmy Fallon, but they have to start somewhere.
The Title Scene
One division where we know we’re getting multi-man... excuse me... multi-team action at Money in the Bank is with the tag squads. The New Day will be defending their tag team titles against Enzo Amore & Big Cass, the Vaudevillains and Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. That deck will likely be shuffled to produce multiple matches on Raw.
Titus O’Neil is many things. Great dad. American. No longer suspended. Will any of those things help him end Rusev’s United States championship run?
Women’s titleholder Charlotte seems more focused on how her father, Ric Flair, spends time with her outside work than what’s going on in the ring right now. Luckily she has Dana Brooke around to handle pesky potential challengers like Natalya and Becky Lynch.
Want to know what’s up with the Intercontinental belt? QUIET ON THE SET. You’ll disturb the title and it’s current owner, The Miz, while they’re getting in character for The Marine 5. Don’t bother asking about those weekly video updates he promised, either.
Other stuff to keep an eye on:
- Ambrose is far from guaranteed the briefcase in this weekend’s ladder match. He’s got five other competitors in Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. KO in particular seems to have momentum (and a willingness to turn on friend and foe alike) on his side right now.
- 2/3 of The Club are aiming for Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, but Styles has a bigger prize in mind. The Phenomenal One may not have been able to take down Reigns, but this Sunday, he has John Cena in his sights. The two threw barbs and blows at each other last Monday, what does tonight have in store.
- If you’re hoping for a certain ex-Club guy to show up and end the Watch, sorry, he’s in Ireland.
- If you’re hoping for male grooming techniques from attractive, muscled men, you’re in luck, because Breezango are always happy to share!
- Someone we’ve been waiting for, and who could use a few grooming tip, was teasing a Nawlins return a few weeks back. Could we see the Eater of Worlds in Louisiana?
- Bray Wyatt’s not the only guy we’re looking out for - will we see other General Managers from the past show up to be openly mocked by Stephanie McMahon in the guise of building to the brand split?
It’s the ‘go home’ show for Money in the Bank!!
What will you be looking for on Raw tonight?
