New X-Division, Women’s champions crowned at Slammiversary

TNA Wrestling on Twitter

The first hour of TNA’s first pay-per-view (PPV) of 2016 has certainly been eventful.

After opening Slammiversary with a moment acknowledging the tragic events in Orlando earlier today, Eddie Edwards, Andrew Everett & DJ Z had a shot at Trevor Lee’s X-Divison title. It was also a shot to start an important show with the type of match TNA’s glory days were built on when guys like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe were fighting for that championship.

The quartet delivered, and a wild finish included Lee nearly retaining following a Spanish Fly on DJ Z and Everett just missing a chance to finish Edwards off after a top rop hurricanrana when he missed a 450.

In the end, Eddie won his first X-Division title when he countered God’s Last Gift from the former champ with an inside cradle.

Edwards said the win was to help pave the way for his brother, Davey Richards, so the Wolves could hunt again when Richards returns from injury.

Injury also played a role in the Knockouts’ championship match, when Maria Kanellis broken hand lead to Billy Corgan adding Gail Kim to the title showdown where Jade was defending against Sienna.

Maria’s muscle claimed her first TNA title after a chaotic finish where Gail brawled with another Kanellis associate, Allie, while Jade’s old Dollhouse partner Marti Belle returned to attack the champ and hand Sienna the Knockouts belt.

Three more titles are on the line in Florida tonight... follow our live thread for quick results, and stay with us for a full report on Slammiversary!
