Cody Rhodes to face Kurt Angle at August independent show

We've covered how Kurt Angle's "year off" from wrestling seems like it was just an excuse to not re-sign with TNA. But the Olympian's latest booking (after his Zack Sabre match next weekend) during his sabbatical is newsworthy for a whole 'nother reason.

It looks like it will be one of the first matches of Cody Rhodes' post-WWE career:

As pointed out in the promotional materials from Northeast Wrestling (NEW), this is a first time match-up. So not only does this bout with Angle remove a name from Rhodes' wish list, this is something we never saw during their illustrious WWE careers.

NEW is an interesting company for Cody to work with as soon as he's free, seeing as they often work with WWE-affiliated acts. Jerry Lawler is a frequent star on their shows, and he'll be on the August 27 card, along with the Hardy brothers, Maria Kanellis & Mike Bennett, Sami Callihan and Jushin Thunder Liger.

Get your tickets here while they last, and stay tuned for more on Cody Rhodes' next steps. Anybody heading to Wappingers Falls to see this one?
