WWE Studios announced today they're going back to The Marine well they first tapped way back in 2006 with John Cena in the starring role.
For The Marine 5: Battleground, Mike "The Miz" Mizanin will return for his third outing as Jake Carter. But that's just the beginning of the awesome news for this joint production with a division of Sony Pictures, because the current Intercontinental champion will be joined by not only his wife, Maryse, and fellow women's Superstar Naomi, but all three members of Social Outcasts!
WWE's press release summarizes the plot of the film, which will be the first to feature six contracted performers:
The Miz returns as Jake Carter, an ex-Marine who served in the Middle East and is now saving civilian lives stateside as an EMT. After responding to an emergency call in an abandoned parking lot, Carter finds himself protecting an injured man from a ruthless biker gang. With the odds stacked against him, Carter utilizes his unique Marine skills to stop the bikers’ rampage before any more innocent blood is shed.
Please let the Outcasts be biker gang members.
Whichever roles the five other Superstars play, this looks like it's continuing a trend for WWE Studios where movies which heavily feature wrestlers are going in more of Sharknado direction of being campy, tongue-in-cheek larks.
I know I won't be able to say no to Miz vs. a Bo Train when it shows up on USA Network late one night in the not too distant future.
Filming begins next Tuesday, May 31 in Vancouver, British Columbia. No word on how long the James Nunn directed shoot will last, and if the Awesome One will pull double duty or drop the IC strap.
