The Young Bucks officially pulled from New Japan's Best of Super Juniors tournament due to injuries

njpw.co.jp

This was largely a foregone conclusion - Matt & Nick Jackson even have a t-shirt commemorating their injuries - but New Japan today announced that the Young Bucks will not be competing in their 23rd annual Best of the Super Juniors (BoSJ) tournament when it kicks off on May 21.

Matt was supposed to be in A Block of the two-and-a-half week round robin tourney, and Nick was to compete in B block. The top two scorers from each grouping advance to a single-elimination bracket to determine the winner.

Without two-thirds of Bullet Club Elite - who were apparently both injured in a six-man tag at Ring of Honor (ROH)'s Toronto show last week - the BoSJ loses some drama. That's because it's unlikely that either Jackson's replacement has a chance in hell of advancing to the semis.

Dave Finlay, a "Young Lion" for New Japan and son of Fit, is replacing Matt, while honorary Bullet Club member Chase Owens fills in for Nick - neither of whom is a likely candidate for a push, let alone join names like Prince Devitt (Finn Balor), Ricochet (Prince Puma) or KUSHIDA as winners.

Minus the Bucks, the field is:

Block A: KUSHIDA, Ryusuke Taguchi, Kyle O'Reilly, Matt Sydal, Rocky Romero, Gedo, BUSHI, Dave Finlay

Block B: Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask IV, Ricochet, Bobby Fish, Barreta, Chase Owens, Volador Jr., Will Ospreay

No word yet on a rehab schedules or return dates for the Bucks, but we'll keep you posted.
