Tonight's episode of SmackDown was filmed on Tuesday night in Greenville, South Carolina. We've got a spoiler report for you here. If you just want to get ready for the show without knowing who wins and loses, read on!
The Headliner
We've experienced all possible combinations of pairings between the men who will compete in Sunday's Fatal 4Way for the Intercontinental championship at Extreme Rules, but we haven't seen the dreaded TALK SHOW MATCH.
Okay, it's not a match, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking tonight's edition of MizTV will be a peaceful affair. Even their planned matches have devolved into chaos, with guys who were supposed to be at the announce desk getting in the ring, tag partners berating and assaulting one another and just the general volatility you'd expect when four competitors with their eyes on the same prize get in the ring together (without even factoring in how much the two Canadians hate each other).
What can we expect when the champ and his lovely wife Maryse welcome Cesaro, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens onto their "set" tonight?
The Title Scene
He ended up getting Styles Clashed face first onto a steel chair, but not before he landed another Superman punch. How much more extreme can WWE World Heavyweight champ Roman Reigns and AJ Styles get before their extreme rules match this weekend at... Extreme Rules? Tonight, the Big Dog will face one of AJ's boys, Luke Gallows, one-on-one. Count on the rest of the Club and the Bloodline getting involved.
We already know that United States champion Kalisto will be sitting out SmackDown, thanks to an back-bending Accolade from the man he'll face Sunday, Rusev. Will his partner, Sin Cara, speak for him? And why were the Bulgarian Brute and his ex-League of Nations' partner Alberto Del Rio on the same page this past Monday?
The ladies got the last segment of the night, but the Flairs didn't leave Flair country thinking about how they main evented Raw. Ric was recovering from news his presence ringside in Newark would cause Charlotte to relinquish the Women's title - and getting the taste slapped out of his mouth. The Nature Girl is likely still dealing from the Sharpshooter Natalya put her in, a move that could lead to her losing the belt in their submission match on pay-per-view (PPV).
After using Xavier Woods' Wayback machine/refrigerator box against the New Day, the Vaudevillains look to have the upperhand heading into their match for the tag team belts. Can the power of positivity turn things around, or are Kofi Kingston's best days still back in 2009?
Other stuff to keep an eye on:
- Two-on-one tactics couldn't keep the Dudleyz from losing a match, and catching a beating, from Big Cass. Look for them to try for revenge before Enzo Amore's imminent return.
- After finding out they'll be on the Kickoff for Extreme Rules, maybe Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler can at least get some microphone time to talk up their No Disqualification match.
- Her partner just went under the knife, but that hasn't stopped Dana Brooke from making a big splash on the main roster. Can Becky Lynch, or anyone, bring back playtime?
- Before their Asylum Match on Sunday, maybe Chris Jericho - or someone - could pin down Dean Ambrose on what exactly he means when he says "there are no rules"?
(Note: I know some folks have come looking for a more definitive match listing - that will be posted behind spoiler text in the comments. If WWE.com releases more information on anything that's officially going to take place on tonight's show, that'll be updated here)
