Welcome to the Rumor Look Back, where we look at rumors from six months ago to see if they played out as predicted. Let’s get started.
Apparently there’s more heat on Lana than Rusev regarding the engagement leak. This means that Rusev may not be booked into the ground like previously thought.
While I can’t speak to who had more heat, Rusev really did not get "booked into the ground." (1/1)
A lot of names are being thrown around as answering John Cena’s open challenge, such as Jericho, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and even AJ Styles or Carlito.
Instead of giving this a 0/5, I’ll just give it 0/1 since even if one were right, it’d be a 1/4 rumor. At this point, Del Rio’s name was not rumored. (0/1)
The Observer notes Randy Orton’s shoulder injury happened when he was taking out the trash at home.
I’m assuming he performs a variety of wrestling maneuvers on the trash, including a snap body slam, RKO, and maybe even the banned punt before putting it in the can.
Spike Dudley could be making an appearance alongside Bubba and D-Von in the future.
Sadly, there’s been no Spike. (0/1)
WWE is planning a Brock Lesnar DVD for 2016, which will mainly be compilation of matches.
I’ll put this on ice for now. I don’t see any word for it yet.
It’s expected that the closing angle of Hell in a Cell (when the Wyatt Family abducted the Undertaker) is to set up a Team Undertaker vs. Team Wyatt match at Survivor Series. There’s some ideas being thrown about but Taker’s teammates aren’t set yet.
This didn’t end up being a traditional elimination match but instead a regular two on two tag. (0/1)
Forbes reports that asides from needing a big Latino star, WWE brought Alberto Del Rio back because Vince likes people who leave and are successful on their own out WWE, such as Brock Lesnar. Thie is compared to certain "lazy millennials" who are just happy to have a dream job at WWE.
For some reason, whenever I think of Vince and lazy millennials, I randomly think he’s talking about Dolph Ziggler. I have absolutely no reason to think that at all. I just randomly do.
It’s entirely possible the next big shows James Storm works for NXT are the UK tour dates.
He didn’t end up working that tour, likely because he was getting ready to re-sign with TNA. (0/1)
While there are stories about continued financial help on the way for Lucha Underground, there’s also word that they’ll film season 2 and 3 at the same time as a cost cutting measure.
That is true. They have already started filming season 3. Our own Bill Hanstock got to see a season three taping and he hinted that it’s going to be wild. (1/1)
It is believed that Alberto Del Rio will be allowed to finish off the rest of his AAA dates and transition the Mega Championship to someone else.
He did not end up working those dates and did not transition the title. (0/1)
There’s speculation Nikki Bella may be taking time off alongside John Cena.
She ended up doing so due to injury, so even if that’s not what was being hinted at originally, that’s what ended up happening. (1/1)
Brock Lesnar is not expected back in WWE until 2016, possibly after the Royal Rumble, to set up his WrestleMania match.
He wasn’t back until 2016, but he did return prior to the Rumble and fought in the Rumble match. (1/2)
While there was talk about Dean Ambrose as a big babyface in John Cena’s absence, there’s now more talk about him turning heel instead.
He has not turned heel, which is a rumor we’ve seen a good deal of. (0/1)
It looks like Charlotte vs. Paige is the plan for the Divas match at Survivor Series
That was the match. Charlotte retained. This was the match that they used the Reid Flair thing to try to build interest. (1/1)
According to the Observer, the Usos are expected back soon and there are already plans for that return.
They returned on November 2 on Raw teaming with Roman, Dean, and Ryback. (1/1)
Speaking of returns, Nick Dinsmore, who worked as Eugene on TV, has been brought up within WWE, possibly for a return.
He has not returned to WWE in any capacity. (0/1)
PWInsider reports that the Young Bucks have not signed with WWE, so the tease they were making is not for NXT. It is expect that they will re-sign with Ring of Honor.
This is correct. They did not sign with NXT/WWE and did re-sign with Ring of Honor. (2/2)
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins will headline Survivor Series. It looks most likely Roman will be screwed out of the title to build sympathy for him, but it’s possible that they’ll put the title on him.
Due to unforeseen events, in this case Rollins’ injury, this match did not take place. I wonder if the Sheamus cash in was the plan prior to the injury, and if it would have out like it did at Survivor Series just with Rollins instead of Ambrose, but with less confetti. Much less confetti. (0/1)
Apparently there’s talk that John Cena could be back by TLC, which is December 13.
He returned briefly, but it was weeks after TLC on December 28. (0/1)
If he does come back for that show, it looks like it will be the rematch against Alberto Del Rio. Either way, that will be the program when he returns.
While it was very brief, that was the match when he did eventually return. (1/1)
According to the Observer, King Barrett and Sheamus are considered an official tag team.
I’m going to go ahead and say this is correct since they became part of the League of Nations stable. Though I understand that this can be read as it would just be the two of them in the tag division, and if that’s the case, this is less correct. (1/1)
The plan for Survivor Series at this time is Undertaker and Kane with two partners (unknown ta this time) against the Wyatt Family in a traditional Survivor Series match.
It ended up just being a tradition tag match that the Brothers of Destruction won. (0/1)
The Usos will likely be pushed as the main babyface duo against the New Day when they return.
They ended up feuding with the New Day through the Royal Rumble. The New Day held their titles the entire time. (1/1)
The reason we haven’t seen the Matadors on TV for a while is they want us to forget about them in advance for a repackaging for Epico and Primo.
While I can’t speak of that being the reason, the repackaging part is correct, since they are now apparently two dudes who love Puerto Rico. (1/1)
According to the Observer, there are talks of a Lucha Underground Sci-Fi movie and a house show tour in 2016.
I’ll put this on ice. I wouldn’t consider their one show outside the Temple a tour so we’ll see what the rest of this year has in store.
