Death becomes her (a Lucha Underground preview)

The trios tournament marches on, although it will have a hard time topping last week's main event. Rey Mysterio's dream team advanced, and in so doing, joins Joey Ryan, Mr. Cisco & Cortez Castro. But the losing squad kept the fires of an interesting rivalry going between Johnny Mundo, Cage & Taya.

Dario Cueto's scheme of putting together squads with beef isn't working so well this season. Last year, it gave us current Trios champs Angelico, Ivelisse & Son of Havoc. This time around, the group who lost to Rey, Dragon Azteca & Prince Puma follows The Mack, Marty the Moth & his sister Mariposa in not being able to do what Team Dysfunction did in the previous tourney.

Who will Dario put Fenix with tonight, when he faces the Disciples of Death? The former Trios champs will be looking to impress Mil Muertes... who will have his own dead hands full when he tries to reclaim the Lucha Underground title from the Monster Matanza. Will the Man of 1,000 Lives be looking to impress Catrina? There's definitely more sparks there than are produced by your run of the mill fiery rebirth.

Plus, the first Aztec Medallion went to Texano last week. Who will claim the next one, and move one step closer to earning the Gift of the Gods title and a guaranteed shot at the LU championship? It's not clear if it's for gold, but Drago and Aero Star go one-on-one once again tonight. Considering the two formed an alliance last season that lead to a two-on-two bathroom nunchuk brawl against Jack Evans and PJ Black earlier this year, you'd have to think El Jefe put something important on the line to get the brothers to battle.

(Update - as you can see in this week's exclusive preview clip above, the spaceman and the human-dragon will indeed be a GotG match)

See you tonight.
