WWE NXT TakeOver: Dallas is all set to pop off tonight (Friday, April 1, 2016) at 10 p.m. ET, live on WWE Network!
CagesideSeats.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, match-by-match coverage of NXT TakeOver: Dallas below, beginning with the first match of the evening and right on through to the main event.
Tonight's show kicks off WrestleMania weekend for WWE from Dallas' Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, and it's offering up a card that has wrestling fans all over the world saying it might surpass the Showcase of the Immortals as the best show WWE puts on in Texas.
The main event is a rematch between the winners of Respect's Dusty Rhodes Classic tag tournament. Samoa Joe has battled through several other men for another shot at Finn Bálor, while the NXT champ is tired of Joe's complaints and entitlement, and ready to end their feud once and for all.
In the Women's championship picture, Asuka and Bayley have no bad blood for one another, but the Hugster holds the prize the unpinned and unsubmitted Empress of Tomorrow came to WWE to claim. For the tag titles, American Alpha have been dubbed by everyone the hottest act in the company, something champs Dash & Dawson are sick of hearing - especially while they're still carrying the belts.
Two big debuts happen in non-title action. First, Austin Aries tries to finish a fight started by Baron Corbin. Then former NXT champ and new full-time main roster talent Sami Zayn in one of his two matches this weekend against one of the biggest stars this brand has ever seen - Shinsuke Nakamura!
(And, we think, Apollo Crews vs. Elias Samson)
We've previewed each of the matches on the show, plus assembled a crew to make predictions, now we're ready for the show to begin!
Kick your off your shoes, relax, and enjoy all the action with the best damn pro wrestling community on the interwebs. And remember to keep refreshing!
REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.

WWE NXT TAKEOVER: DALLAS LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Swift here.
Let us do this.
Pre-emptive mark out
Twelve hours until TakeOver.
Pre-show
- Ten minutes out from the pre-show. Feeling like Mojo Rawley over here.
- Our panel tonight is Renee Young, Lita, and Mauro Ranallo.
- Renee says two main events tonight: both the women's and men's title matches.
- Cut to Cathy Kelley in the arena, waiting with some hyped fans. An "NXT" chant starts, because of course it does.
- Lita says American Alpha will win; Mauro backs The Revival (after comparing them to The Brain Busters and the Minnesota Wrecking Crew).
- Hype packages for Aries-Corbin and the women's title match follow.
- Mauro namedrops Yoshiaki Fujiwara. This guy's great.
- Sami Zayn with Cathy Kelley, says it's the biggest weekend of his career: double duty with Shinsuke Nakamura tonight, and the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match Sunday.
- Footage from last night of the unveiling of the Dusty Rhodes memorial statue.
- Mauro impersonates Siri saying "Finn Balor." Yep.
- WE ARE GOING LIVE!
Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. The Revival — NXT Tag Team Championship Match
American Alpha open the show with a MASSIVE pop (crowd is gonna be so hyped tonight!) and come out wearing brand new track suits. The Revival wearing their now-customary white jackets.
- Gable and Dawson start. A "Gable" chant immediately starts, and Dawson gives him three short slaps in the corner. "Little amateur boy, huh!"
- Crowd: "Which one's Dawson? Which one's Dash?" Corey: "Texas isn't known for its intelligence."
- Some chain wrestling results in an early near-fall for Gable.
- Jordan gets the tag and gets MASSIVE elevation on a big dropkick.
- JORDAN AND GABLE HITTING SOME GREAT TEAM SPOTS (STEREO GERMANS!) AND JORDAN IS RUNNING AROUND THE RING.
- Well that's the first mark out of the night.
- The Revival turn momentum around. They use their "two dudes punching a guy" spot, which is just the best.
- Nearing a Jordan hot tag.
- Wilder pulls Jordan off the apron. The Revival follow with ... something. Clear botch, followed by a "Botchomania" chant.
- Dawson just keeping Gable away from Jordan, but the big man gets in! Suplex City and the straps are down!
- The Revival's ring intelligence is exceptional. Some cheating gets a near fall, with Jordan kicking out.
- Gable JUST saves the match, and Jordan gets a very near fall on Dawson. Overhead belly-to-belly follows. Jordan misses the shoulder block into the corner. Gable now legal.
- Series of near falls.
- DAWSON MISSES A TAG TO JORDAN. GRAND AMPLITUDE! NEW TAG CHAMPS!
- The crowd serenades the two with "ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA."
Winner: American Alpha defeat The Revival via pinfall following Grand Amplitude (new NXT Tag Team Champions)
That was a great tag team match. Both Gable and Jordan are visibly emotional in the ring, your new tag team champions.
Jim Ross and Michelle Beadle are in the crowd. KOTA IBUSHI IS AS WELL!
We just got another entrant to the Global Cruiserweight Series, me thinks.
Baron Corbin vs. Austin Aries
Corbin is wearing a shredded leather jacket.
- Duel chants for Aries and Corbin. The Corbin half is just as loud, it should be noted.
- Corbin's offense is downright vicious.
- Corbin engaging with the crowd. Haven't reached full-Banter Corbin yet, but the Lone Wolf is in control.
- Corbin working the shoulder to good effect.
- Corbin complains that he should have had a three count, and yells at the timekeeper to ring the bell. Baron Corbin is actively talking to individual people in the crowd on offense. Amazing.
- Aries making a rally, including a second rope cutter to the apron followed by a missile dropkick. Corbin rolls to the outside, and Aries FLIES into him at full speed, pushing the barricade back several feet.
- Aries takes too long, though, and Corbin hits a Deep Six on the floor!
- Aries just beats the ten count, but then summons Corbin to come at him! Corbin in control again.
- Aries counters the End of Days attempt into a rollup, and gets the three count! Guessing we're not done with this feud...
- Corbin is quite angry.
Austin Aries defeats Baron Corbin via pinfall
Fun match, and I'm guessing we're not done yet with those two.
Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Nakamura's image on the tron gets an enormous pop.
- Crowd sings along with Sami's theme. This is likely to be Sami Zayn's last walk to an NXT ring.
- A loud "Nakamura" chant before his theme starts. And it's a good theme, too.
- 2016, folks.
- Sami can't help but smile watching The King of Strong Style's entrance. His famous pose leaning off the rope gets a BIG pop.
- A LOUD "Nakamura/Sami Zayn" dueling chant starts. Here we go.
- Sami barely avoids his head getting kicked straight off.
- What a time to be alive.
- Zayn and Nakamura feeling each other out, and Sami calls Shinsuke out! A loud "NXT" chant rings out.
- This crowd is very, very hot.
- A series of very sharp forearm exchanges results in Nakamura tumbling to the outside.
- Series of strong knee strikes gives Nakamura the edge. Near fall for Swagsuke off a knee to the midsection with Zayn perched on the top rope.
- As Geno notes on the Twittah machine, Zayn's selling has been exceptional in this bout.
- Michinoku Driver from Zayn, and Nakamura comes down hard on his neck.
- The two exchange about 50 forearms back and forth, and the crowd loses its mind. Nakamura has a bloody nose.
- MORE FOREARMS. ALL OF THE FOREARMS. CROWD GIVES A STANDING OVATION.
- NO SERIOUSLY EVERY FOREARM EVER IS RIGHT NOW. NAKAMURA TASTES HIS OWN BLOOD.
- Zayn with two big clotheslines takes the advantage. NAKAMURA FLIPS INTO THE ARMBAR.
- This match is spectacular.
- SAMI GETS THE KOJI CLUTCH LOCKED ON. CROWD CHANTS "NO." Nakamura rolls over into a pin, and Zayn JUUUUST kicks out. Standing enziguri from Nakamura and now both are flat on the mat.
- "FIGHT FOREVER" is the crowd chant.
- SAMI MISSES A HELLUVA, NAKAMURA SETS UP FOR THE KNEE, SAMI COUNTERS INTO A BLUE THUNDER BOMB, AND GETS A 2.9999999 COUNT
- NXT NXT NXT
- Kevin Owens is matching this somewhere with the biggest smile ever on his face.
- Sami sets up for the Tornado DDT on the outside, Nakamura just kicks
- Sami trying to hit the exploder suplex, but Shinsuke just elbows him in the head several times because why not. And then knees him in the back of the head.
- RUNNING HIGH KNEE AND ZAYN STAYS DOWN
Shinsuke Nakamura defeats Sami Zayn via pinfall following Bomaye, which is now known as Kinshasa.
What a match. Nakamura extends a hand to Sami.
THANK YOU SAMI. THANK YOU SAMI. THANK YOU SAMI.
OLE, OLE OLE OLE! Sami Zayn closes the curtain on his NXT career. A heartfelt moment.
Pretty sure we just watched the match of the year.
Bayley vs. Asuka (NXT Women's Championship match)
Oh, ho hum, you're emotionally spent? Here's Bayley now.
Can we take a 15 minute breather? No? Got it.
- Asuka in new gear, including a new mask. Corey Graves calls her "the future champion."
- Phillips calls the mask "A beautiful disaster." That fits pretty well.
- Turn it up!
- And the crowd does, with a MASSIVE pop for Bayley, even after that last match.
- "MAKE HUGS NOT WAR" reads a sign in the crowd.
- "BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY BAYLEY"
- TO ALL THE PEOPLE ACROSS EVERY NATION, TURN IT UP AND GIVE ME SOME MORE
- I'm a totally objective journalism
- Asuka getting some boos here. The crowd is firmly behind the Hugster.
- #WOMENSCHAMPIONSHIP
- Asuka looks for an early knockout kick, Bayley dodges.
- "ASUKA'S GONNA KILL YOU / BAYLEY'S GONNA HUG YOU"
- Both competitors go for signature spot, Bayley the back elbow and Asuka the running knee, but both are well scouted and avoided. Good stuff.
- Bayley gets a nearfall off a top-rope crossbody.
- Asuka plays possum and locks Bayley in the Fujiwara armbar, but the champ reaches the ropes with her foot.
- "LET'S GO BAYLEY / LET'S GO ASUKA." Bayley gets a nearfall off a Bayleycanrana
- Bayley has a guillotine choke, but Asuka reverses it into a kneebar. Bayley uses Asuka's momentum to send her out of the ring. Bayley holding her ankle.
- Bayley flys! Hurricanrana to the outside eventually gets a two-count.
- Asuka starts screaming. This woman is terrifying. Asuka hits two knees and gets a close near fall!
- Bayley catches Asuka going for the running hip attack, and turns it into a back suplex!
- Both women prone on the mat.
- ASUKA SLAPS BAYLEY, AND THE CHAMP IS ANGRY! Bayley gets a jumping kneebar on the challenger!
- Overdog Bayley Mode: Activated.
- Bayley working the knee to good effect.
- ASUKA LOCKS IN THE ARMBAR, Bayley counters with a rollup, Asuka misses two big kicks, Bayley gets another near fall rollup!
- BAYLEY LOOKING FOR THE "BAYLEY SUBMISSION MANEUVER" as Rich Brennan once called it, the move that ended Sasha Banks' NXT career
- A big kick dazes Bayley, and the armbar is locked in again. Asuka almost has the Asuka lock on, Bayley fighting it!
- THE ASUKA LOCK IS ON TIGHT, BAYLEY IS FIGHTING
- Bayley is fading. The crowd tries to rouse her back.
- Bayley fades out, Danilo calls for the bell, and we have a new champion. The crowd reacts in shock.
- Asuka celebrates, the crowd cheers. A worthy champion and successor to the Horsewomen.
Asuka defeats Bayley via submission (New NXT Women's Champion)
Asuka walks off with her title, Bayley has a look of steely determination on her face.
Interestingly, the feed goes to commercial instead of waiting for the reaction to Bayley. Hanstock tweets that Izzy's dad carried her out of the arena. Heartbreaking.
Great show everybody! Oh wait.
Bobby Roode is in the crowd!
There really needs to be a post-match angle, or another Finn Balor main event will be overshadowed by (three) other matches on the card.
Finn the Cowboy, anybody?
Finn Balor is out here swinging a chainsaw around and I'm absolutely terrified he's going to accidentally throw it into the crowd.
Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe (NXT Men's Championship Match)
Joe is unimpressed with Finn's entrance.
- Can't tell if Finn is angry or insane as he nods his head for no apparent reason.
- Joe is already cut open!
- Joe takes a knifeedge chop, blood all over his face, AND THEN THROWS FINN INTO THE CROWD. LET'S GO BABY
- Joe wit ha VICIOUS SLAP, my god he nearly took Finn's head off! The challenger, BLOODIED AND ALL, in control, getting "JOE JOE JOE" chants. Enziguri takes Finn to the outside.
- Some dumb dumb wrote a few minutes ago that this match was gonna get upstaged, not sure who.
- "Better than Raw." Not saying much, folks.
- Medics out here trying to fix Joe's cut, and we're back underway.
- Drake calling the medics back in, giving the cross arms "X" signal.
- Crowd is getting firmly behind Joe, understandably. LOTS of blood shed from the challenger.
- Smelling a double turn.
- "Let them bleed chants the crowd." This isn't the Roman Coliseum.
- Series of chops and Joe sent to the outside, and Finn basically takes his head off with a running kick.
- Joe counters a slingblade with an overhead belly-to-belly
- Slingblade connects. LOUD dueling chant. Joe dodges the corner dropkick and gets a nearfall off a senton.
- Joe hits a powerbomb, turns it into a deep Boston Crab, and then transitions into the crossface. Finn rolls out and hits a standing double stomp.
- Another slingblade, corner dropkick, Finn goes for Coup de Grace, but Joe was lying in wait. Goes for the Muscle Buster, and HITS IT
- FINN KICKS OUT!
- JOE IS STUNNED AND HOLY GOD THAT MAN IS MAD
- Series of strikes ends with a pele kick. They're both prone on the mat.
- lol Mania
- Finn Demons up and actually is acting differently. Coup de Grace hits
- Finn goes for Bloody Sunday, Joe counters with a COquina Clutch, Finn hits a Sliced Bread #2 into a pin, and gets the three count.
- Joe is shocked and MAD.
Finn Balor defeats Samoa Joe via pin (retains NXT Men's Championship)
Joe turns back, angrily, and stares at Finn before walking off.
Are we really going out on this?
Well, I guess the show is over. This is my personal opinion, but there's no way that match should have gone on last.
Hell of a show, but they still managed to go out on the wrong note. Not thrilled with this.
Swift signing off, but stay tuned to Cageside Seats for reactions to all of tonight's action.
Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Sami Zayn in the likely match of the year. 2016, folks.
