AZTEC WARFARE!
What? A large font doesn't get you excited for Lucha Underground's second signature battle royal, a twenty wrestler (because there will be participants of both genders) affair with participants entering every 90 seconds.
Sure, it kind of sounds like that other company's January pay-per-view (PPV), but the big difference is eliminations are via pinfall or submission, meaning the whole Temple is in play (a fact also aided by the no disqualifications stipulation) - and there's less likelihood of dumbassery.
There are three major storylines in play - and too many subplots and minor angles to remember... this is Lucha Underground, after all:
1) Fenix just defeated his mortal enemy Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground title last week. As revenge - and a plot to get the belt back - Mil's "manager" and current proprietor of the Boyle Heights Temple, Catrina, announced that the champ will start Aztec Warfare II, while Muertes enters last. Something similar worked out well for Triple H a couple months back, right?
2) Or possibly 1A... the Temple's founder, Dario Cueto, has been on the run since his associate Black Lotus broke his family's pact with the Dragon clan by murdering El Dragon Azteca in Boyle Heights last season. But we recently learned that he's fed his cannibalistic big brother Mantaza enough jabronis that they're ready to reclaim what's theirs.
3) Or possibly 1B... Rey Mysterio has been training El Dragon Azteca Jr. to assume his father's mantle and reunite the seven tribes. The Master of the 6-1-9 toasted the completion of his teaching with a shot of fine tequila, and both men will make their LU debut by taking part in tonight's show-long match.
What? I still didn't sell you on it? Let my main man Manolo give it a shot with his Odds of Victory.
Still not sure? Here's Matt Striker's pitch...
The Master of Metaphors, @Matt_Striker_, is here to get you hyped for #AztecWarfare2! WED @ 8 ET on @ElReyNetwork!https://t.co/3cPkTXR3sk
