LU S2E8 LIVE BLOG
Geno here.
Let us do this.
They dedicated the show to the memory of Hayabusa.
Fenix was backstage with the Gift of the Gods championship when Catrina showed up talking about trying to destroy him but not being able to. She wants his power because they could give her life again. He reached his hand out and she took it.
"Sometimes I wonder if I made the wrong choice. If I should have stayed loyal to you, and accepted my fate. We would be ruling this temple together."
They kissed.
"Our final kiss. Tonight, Mil Muertes will destroy the Fenix once and for all. And you will bring me back from the dead."
Then she disappeared again.
Fenix put his hands on his head in frustration.

Disciples of Death vs. Ivelisse & Angelico & Son of Havoc
It's made clear beforehand that if Ivelisse and her fellas don't win the Trios titles, they will leave The Temple forever.
DOD worked over Ivelisse until she tagged in her ex-boyfriend, Havoc, who ran wild until Angelico got his turn to get in and fly all around taking everyone out. They set up for what looked like it would be the finish but Catrina got involved. Then DOD pulled a twin magic switch but only got a two count on the ensuing roll up. Not long after, Angelico hit his finish and Havoc was in to get the three count to win the titles and keep their spot in The Temple.

Johnny Mundo and Prince Puma were doing some training. He said he took it too easy on Puma at Aztec Warfare last year but this year he's going to take him to Slam Town. Mundo said The Temple is his and he's not going to make any mistakes like he did before.
Puma punched a hole through the heavy bag they were both working over after Mundo left.

Rey Mysterio summoned Dragon Azteca. He told him his training is complete and gave him an invitation to The Temple to compete in Aztec Warfare 2. Azteca asked if Mysterio would be coming with him and he pulled out an invitation of his own.
"But of course. You're not the only one with something to prove. May the best man win."
Then they drank.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Texano
This was a bullrope match.
Chavo wanted The Crew to do his bidding but they walked out on him right at the start of the match. Texano was really happy about this and took advantage by beating him down. Chavo got some offense in but this was a lot more about Texano just taking it to him.
When Chavo went for the Frog Splash, Texano pulled him down using the rope, hit a sit out powerbomb and got the pin.

He lashed Chavo after.

Mil Muertes was shown throwing the Disciples of Death around backstage. Catrina wanted Mil to spare one of them but he didn't.

Dario Cueto was shown.
He said "he's ready, so how about we take back my temple?" He took the key from around his neck and unlocked the door he's been protecting.
Out walked his monster, wearing a gnarly mask, covered in blood.
Here they come.

Mil Muertes vs. Fenix
The main event for the Lucha Underground championship.
The story of the match was Muertes beating Fenix down pretty severely. That included ripping his mask up -- a huge sign of disrespect, commentary was sure to mention -- and busting open his forehead. When it was already exposed and bloody, Muertes bit him there.
They fought all the way through the crowd, up on the balcony. Fenix tried a tight rope walk and was thrown into a group of fans. Then he actually pulled it off and did a huge dive that got a monster pop.

Muertes recovered first, though, and powerbombed him onto the table Vampiro and Striker were announcing behind. It didn't break, of course.
Structural integrity, y'all.
Fenix got control back in the ring, however, and it was his turn to tear up his opponent's mask. It didn't come all the way off, only exposing the top of Mil's head, but he was PISSED and Striker claimed "the face of death has been revealed" anyway. Muertes responded to this slight with a huge spear and heavy punches from top.
Then he grabbed a chair.
Fenix managed to put Muertes down before hitting a big splash but that only got a two count. They went back-and-forth with big spot after big spot, all getting two count after two count. Crowd was INSANE for all of it. Great match.
When Muertes set Fenix up for the Flatliner, this happened:

NEW CHAMPION.
Catrina got on the mic after and told Fenix to "celebrate now while you can." That's because next week is Aztec Warfare 2 and it will be for the Lucha Underground championship and Fenix will go in as number one. Muertes will enter at number 20. "Death is coming for everyone -- a thousand of them."
Welp!
