These Southern boys were targeted for induction into WWE's Hall of Fame as soon as this year's WrestleMania was announced for their old Dallas stomping grounds. Rumors picked up steam over the weekend, and today the company made it official.
The Fabulous Freebirds will be inducted as part of the Hall's class of 2016, along with Sting and the Godfather, in the town where one of the most famous feuds took place. The Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired Freebirds already existed when they hit the Sportatorium to wrangle with World Class Championship Wrestling's Von Erichs, but it was there that Michael "P.S." Hayes, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy and Buddy "Jack" Roberts took their careers to new heights.
Hall of Fame levels, even.
The group, along with Jimmy Garvin, who joined in the 1980s, will invoke the Freebird rule and go into Vince McMahon's club together. Rolling Stone broke the news earlier today, and we can expect more hype and an official video package on the Feb. 29 edition of Raw.
