If Austin Aires was at commentary, it must have been Cruiserweight championship time at Roadblock. His fellow 205 Live announcer Mauro Ranallo didn’t join him, but, hey, at least Corey Graves made fun of his Twitter habits!
The existing announcers told the story of the Triple Threat between all three men who’ve held the purple belt well, with emphasis on the friendship between current champ Rich Swann and TJ Perkins. Those two focused their offense on Brian Kendrick at the outset, but weren’t afraid to get into it with one another, either.
Each man worked for submissions as the match built to its conclusion, and the turning point came when Perkins released a hold on Swann, despite their being no requirement to do so. A second later, after a double Superkick to Kendrick, a Swann Song caught him off guard, and Rich retained.
BUT THAT WASN’T ALL!
Neville’s music hit, and the caped Brit appeared on the stage. But it was more than just the cruiserweight debut of the high-flier many have been rooting for.
It was also a big heel turn, as he laid out all three of the top guys on the sub-205 scene.
Stay tuned... things just got more interesting for a division that’s struggled to find its footing over the last couple months.
