Lucha Underground returned last night (Dec. 14) with all the happenings from everyone’s favorite hidden temple.
You can find all the results at the Lucha Live Blog.
What Happened:
Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot, AR Fox, and Mariposa to advance in the Battle of the Bulls.
After the match, Killshot looked to maybe shake the hand of Fox, who was the one pinned in the match. Instead he kicked him in the head and hit the double stomp from the top rope.
What We Learned:
- Mariposa is vicious. There was a point in the match that she just continually just tossed folding chairs (and there were a lot of them) at her downed opponents over and over again. In fact, everyone in this match had a vicious streak. Dario must have planned it that way.
- Killshot is done trying to make friends with his old brother in arms Dante Fox. After the match was over, he decided to unload on Fox. If Fox wasn’t going to forgive him and hold this grudge, Killshot had no choice but to start bringing the fight. That means these two are going to continue to fight. You won’t see me complaining about that at all.
What Happened:
Taya was working on her Johnny Mundo/Worldwide Underground documentary with PJ Black and Jack Evans backstage. Johnny Mundo rolled in pretty upset that PJ and Jack weren’t preparing for tonight’s Battle of the Bulls match. In fact, he said if one of those two don’t win, they are out of the World Wide Underground.
What We Learned:
- That Johnny Mundo hasn’t lightened up since winning the Lucha Underground title. And that he decides the membership of the Underground. The best part is the act of handing in their bandana was how they symbolize having to leave the group. Those dudes love their bandanas. If I wear one, am I officially a part of Underground?
What Happened:
After training, Sexy Star found a spider in her locker, which really upset her.
What We Learned:
- That Sexy Star really doesn’t like spiders I guess. Honestly, this was a pretty odd scene. Apparently there’s something about spiders that sets Sexy off, but we don’t know what. (It’s possible this is referencing from something early in season one when I wasn’t watching or some thing recently that skipped my mind. If you all have a better idea, let’s discuss it in the comments.)
What Happened:
Drago defeated Kobra Moon via DQ after the one of the reptile generals from last week attacked him. The rest of the Trios champs, Fenix and Aerostar, made the save. However the second general, a much bigger dude, came down and cleaned house. The Kobra clan left with Drago.
What We Learned:
- That the Kobra tribe ain’t no one to screw with. These Generals laid waste the trios champions with relative ease. The one guy is massive and had no problem delivering a double choke slam to both Aerostar and Fenix.
- That Kobra Moon means business with whatever she has planned for Drago.
What We Still Don’t Know:
- Who Drago is in this tribe’s mythology. Last week, Kobra talked about a general a millennia ago that deserted the other two generals (who we met tonight). However, I don’t think that’s Drago. Drago talked about being held against his will by Kobra’s tribe. Yet, there are two sides to every story so perhaps he was the general but against his will? Did he desert when he saw a moment for freedom? So much to learn.
- Will Kobra and her two generals be a trios team to feud against the Trios champs?
What Happened:
Backstage, Mariposa and Sexy Star get into a scuffle. Sexy gets the better of Mariposa and accuses her of the grave crime of putting a spider in her locker. Mariposa denies it.
What We Learned:
- This spider thing really has Sexy Star on edge. I mean really on edge. She literally punched a hole in the wall because of it. Her dialogue with Mariposa was on the lines of “First you kidnap me and and torture me for six months and then you have the gall to put a spider in my locker?” If it were Mariposa, as psychological warfare goes, that’s a big step down from the whole kidnapping thing.
What Happened:
PJ Black defeated Jack Evans, Angelico, and Son of Havoc to advance in the Battle of the Bulls.
What We Learned:
- Johnny’s pep talk worked. Well it wasn’t a pep talk. It was him being a jerk and threatening to kick PJ and Jack out of the Worldwide Underground. But sometimes tough douchey love works. Now Johnny has what he wants: One of his own to help affect the outcome of the finals. Ideally, he’ll want PJ to win so he can just lay down for him. Though as for that...
- There is no honor amongst thieves. At the end of the match, Evans and Black got Son of Havoc and Angelico out of the ring. Seeing their chance. PJ offered to lay down for Jack so one of them could get the 1-2-3. However when Jack went to pick up the easy win, Black rolled him up for the pinfall victory. The best part about is? Jack wasn’t even that mad! Him being a sleazy ass himself, he understood. He was more than willing to shake PJ’s hand at the end. It was PJ that pulled the hand back, not because was angry but because like a 5th grader, he thought it would be funny.
- It was awesome seeing a reunion of the first Trios champions in Angelico and Son of Havoc. It wasn’t even played up that much, but it was cool seeing them work together. There was one moment when Angelico had one of the Underground on his back in a fireman’s carry. Havoc went to the top and stomped onto that guy onto the back of the other guy who was on the mat.
- The final match for the Battle of the Bulls will be Cage vs. Mack vs. PJ Black vs. Jeremiah Crane. The winner will either face Johnny Mundo or Sexy Star, depending on who wins next week’s cage match. Despite who will be champion, there’s no obvious guess on who will win the final match.
What We Still Don’t Know:
- If Havoc and Angelico retreated to Havoc’s trailer for some Bagel Bites with Mascarita Sagrada.
What Happened:
El Dragon Azteca Jr visited Rey Mysterio, who is still healing up from Matanza’s attack at Aztec Warfare. Rey feels bad that Azteca was attacked by Matanza. But El Dragon wasn’t upset. He now realized he’s got to take it to Matanza. Rey tried to talk him out of it but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Azteca plans to murder Matanza. Literally.
What We Learned:
- Uhh... El Dragon Azteca has some murderous intentions. So basically Matanza wants to kill Myserio and Azteca wants to kill Matanza. This is Lucha Underground so someone dying is definitely not out of the realm of possibility.
Tonight was a table setting episode. We have our 4-way match to crown a #1 contender set. We have the cage match between Johnny and Sexy Star next week. We got some major movement in the Kobra Moon/Drago angle. And both 4-way matches were really fun tonight.
Sound off below and we’ll be back next week with more Lucha Underground!
