Even though WWE’s new “Big 4” plan of using the same building for a TakeOver the night before and a Raw and SmackDown after Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series wasn’t set to start until Mania 33 in Orlando, there wasn’t much doubt that NXT would hold a live event before 2017’s Rumble.
Triple H made it official with this Tweet earlier this afternoon, which also broke the news that tickets will go on sale this Friday, Dec. 2.
Unlike the “Big 4” plan, and not surprising considering Royal Rumble is in the stadium-sized AlamoDome, TakeOver: San Antonio will be in the Freeman Coliseum. This is the approximately 11,000 seat building WWE often uses for live shows in the area.
The relatively quick turnaround doesn’t leave NXT with much time to build a card, but we should know more about their plans following the taping at Full Sail this Wednesday and the matches they’re filming in Japan and Australia over the next week.
In the meantime, it’s probably best to prepare yourself for Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, round IV.
