Word came down after Evolve 72 last night that Evolve World Champion Timothy Thatcher suffered a concussion during his successful title defense against Catch Point mainman and WWE Raw superstar Drew Gulak.

The match, a no ropes, no holds barred affair created by Gulak specifically for the occasion and dubbed the Squared Circle of Survival, saw the ring torn apart, right down to the boards and steel frame. Late in the match, both men threw hard suplexes on the exposed wood, and one suspects it’s likely one of those that concussed Thatcher.

As a result, the champion is off of tonight’s show, Evolve 73, and his originally slated opponent, Tony Nese, has an open contract for a match. As well, Evolve have added Darby Allin vs. Jaka to the card.

We here at Cageside Seats wish the champion a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him defend his title again next month.
