Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally predicted. Let’s get right to it.

May 6, 2016

  • Seth Rollins will be making his return to WWE television when he gets done filming a movie for WWE Studios. He's likely going to be in one of the featured matches at SummerSlam.
  • He was in the Universal title match at SummerSlam, which was definitely one of the featured matches. (1/1)
  • According to the Observer, the original finish for the Enzo & Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillains match at Payback was for the Dudley Boyz to cost the former team and that would have led to a match between the two at Extreme Rules.
  • That would have made sense the way they were building towards things prior to Enzo’s injury.
  • PW Insider notes that there's been some talk of "integrating the Global Cruiserweight Series into WWE NXT TV tapings this summer."
  • They were really two different things. Some of the participants had some random matches on NXT, but I wouldn’t count that as integrating the CWC into NXT. (0/1)
  • An interesting rumor, coming from the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter: WWE has an unwritten rule not to hire any woman unless she's at least 20 years old.
  • That’s weird. I’d understand if it were “any person” to avoid maturity issues. But why just “any woman” of that age?
  • Mark Henry isn't getting used on television right now because his contract is coming up and he has no plans to re-sign.
  • This is weird because he’s been on TV since then, meaning he’s either re-signed (which I can’t find evidence of) or that wasn’t the reason he’s off TV. So either way, it’s incorrect. (0/1)

May 7, 2016

  • There were rumors of other WWE releases coming, with names like Mark Henry and Ryback going around, but they weren't announced with the others yesterday. That doesn't mean they won't be at some point soon, however.
  • Ryback wasn’t released (they just let his contract expire) and Mark Henry is still with the company. (0/2)
  • Randy Orton's profile page was broken for a time yesterday leading some to believe there was something going on with him and WWE but the Observer notes that's not the case and he's still scheduled back on TV soon.
  • He was back on TV as planned. (1/1)
  • The Observer notes that both Bobby Roode and Eric Young are expected to become "official" NXT talent soon.
  • They’re both there. Young is party of the Sanity stable and Bobby Roode is a glorious single’s star feuding with Tye Dillinger. (2/2)
  • The Intercontinental title match at Extreme Rules is expected to be a Fatal 4-Way with The Miz defending against Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn.
  • That was the match. Miz retained. (1/1)

May 9, 2016

  • While there have been plenty of rumors surrounding Finn Bálor getting called up to the main roster, apparently the date to look out for is the May 23 episode of Raw.
  • A lot of Bálor fans were waiting for awhile. He wasn’t at that Raw. He didn’t debut until after the WWE draft. He was injured less than 2 months later and has been out since. (0/1)
  • To the surprise of no one, Vince McMahon is apparently high on Big Cass.
  • He seems like the kind of guy Vince would like.
  • The retirement angle stuff with Matt Hardy is a work but he's apparently looking at getting out of active wrestling at some point in the next couple years.
  • Instead of retiring, he became BROKEN. And it’s been fantastic. (1/1)

May 10, 2016

  • WWE likely signed off on Ethan Carter III's promo and the angle with Drew Galloway from EVOLVE 61, according to Wrestling Observer.
  • This was when EC3 and Drew Galloway were working Evolve as disgruntled ex WWE employees. I wonder if they Evolve have nixed the angle if WWE wasn’t cool with it.
  • The additional cuts coming from WWE later this month will be a mix of performers who are already semi-retired and ones currently working shows like Superstars or not being used, just like the May 6 group.
  • They weren’t really other cuts coming soon. Christian was cut from his active contract but kept the one that left him to do the Edge and Christian show. Cody Rhodes was released but he requested that. (0/1)
  • Tyler Breeze was only working NXT house shows last weekend to make them 'special'. He's remaining on the main roster full-time.
  • This is true. Breeze did not go back to NXT. He and Fandango are part of SmackDown Survivor Series tag team. (1/1)

May 11, 2016

  • PW Insider notes that Bray Wyatt is likely still "at least a few more weeks" away from actually wrestling in matches again. He could return sooner, of course, but that doesn't mean he'll be wrestling before then.
  • His first match back was June 28, so definitely a bit away. (1/1)
  • Seth Rollins is expected back early June.
  • He returned on May 22, so a bit earlier than predicted here. (0/1)
  • Speaking of returns, Neville is expected to make his return within the next month or so as well.
  • He returned to TV on July 25, so a bit longer than predicted here. We rarely see him now. (0/1)
  • Apparently WWE is high on Emma once again and she's in the plans moving forward, what with Dana Brooke now a part of her main roster act.
  • Unfortunately an injury derailed this but it looks like they’re prepping her return.

May 12, 2016

  • Not surprisingly, the word going around is that WWE will be releasing Adam Rose even if he isn't convicted on the charges he was arrested for this week. However, they'll wait to see if he is convicted first.
  • He ended up asking for his release before WWE could initiate anything. (0/1)
  • Regarding upcoming big returns like Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, and Bray Wyatt, WWE apparently wants John Cena to be the first big return on May 30 and the rest will follow that.
  • Seth was the first. Weird that WWE would want ready guys to sit out waiting for Cena. (0/1)
  • PW Insider has noted that the next round of WWE cuts is expected to come sometime shortly after the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, which is scheduled for May 22.
  • There really wasn’t a next round of cuts. (0/1)
  • As far as already released wrestlers go, PW Insider also reported WWE told Damien Sandow his release wasn't because of anything he did but because they wanted to freshen things up on the roster.
  • His time in TNA has somewhat exposed his weaknesses, making WWE’s move with him a bit more understandable. However, Rex is transitioning to full heel in TNA now which he is much better at.
  • There's another rumor going around that one of the WWE releases still to come is one of the top female stars on the roster.
  • While I wouldn’t be surprised if Paige at one point is released, none of the top female stars have been. (0/1)

This week: 8/20 - 40%

Overall: 1,171/2,186 - 53.6%

Have a great week, everyone!
