Ring of Honor announced today that they have signed UK independent standouts “The Villain” Marty Scurll and “Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay to exclusive contracts.
At a time when several high profile ROH superstars have departed for WWE and TNA, it’s a much needed injection of talent. Both men have broken out significantly on the international scene over the last year or so, with Ospreay winning New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament and Scurll taking Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Battle of Los Angeles. Their championship credentials are well established also, both men having been Progress Champion, RPW British Cruiserweight Champion, and SWE Speed King, among other unshared accolades.
In the ring, Ospreay’s high-flying style and fighting spirit has earned him both comparisons to a young AJ Styles and the absolute ire of Vader, albeit at the cost of perhaps putting more miles on his body than his youth suggests. Scurll’s mixture of technical wrestling and villainous shenanigans, meanwhile, hasn’t made any veteran wrestlers angry so far as I’m aware, but pleases crowds plenty all the same.
They’ll start on ROH’s upcoming UK tour, with Scurll facing Dalton Castle and Ospreay against ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish in a Proving Ground Match in Liverpool on November 18. From there, on the 19th in Leicester, they’ll team up for a shot at the Young Bucks and their ROH World Tag Team Championship before ending the tour across the squared circle from each other in singles action in London on the 20th.
Excited to see what they’ll do in Ring of Honor, Cagesiders?
