Former Lucha Underground Trios champ PJ Black, who many know from his WWE run as Justin Gabriel, had to back out of a date in his native South Africa this weekend. Black, who incorporates his love of extreme sports into his wrestling character, the Darewolf, had an accident while BASE jumping which broke both of his ankles.
World Wrestling Professionals (WWP), the Port Elizabeth based promotion he was booked to appear for on Saturday, Oct. 1, broke the news on their Facebook page:
Looks like Black did appear as promised for a session with fans in Montclaire. No update on recovery time, but you have to believe - best case - he’s out for several months. From a posting on his own Facebook page, he appears to be in good spirits:
Season four of Lucha Underground is in the works, but there’s no word on when filming will take place. For the sake of Worldwide Underground, hopefully it’s next Spring!
Join us in sending our best to PJ as he rehabs from what looks like a painful injury, and deals with forced downtime from not only wrestling, but also his daredevil hobbies.
