Freelance Wrestling

Welcome back to the Sermon on the Mat, your weekly one-stop shop for news from the wider world of wrestling beyond the big cable TV monoliths that get all the coverage.

Coming soon...

Freelance Wrestling Walk Among Us (October 27)

Anthony Henry vs. Ethan Case vs Matt Cage vs. Shawn Phoenix vs. Stephen Wolf vs. Suede Thompson (Six-Man Scramble Match)
Brubaker & Kobe Durst vs. Colt Cabana & Dick Justice
Rob Matter vs. Stevie Fierce
Beta (Craig Mitchell, Kenny Sutra, & Matt Knicks) vs. Isaias Velazquez, ???, & ???
“All Ego” Ethan Page vs. Suge D
Lio Rush vs. Mustafa Ali (c) (Freelance Championship)

Freelance are back in our lives once again with a special packed Thursday night show at the Chop Shop in Chicago, Illinois. It is gonna be a barn-burner, folks, from the scramble match, featuring the return of Stephen Wolf and the Freelance debuts of Anthony Henry and “Money” Matt Cage, straight through to what is sure to be an awesomely pyrotechnical main event between ROH’s Lio Rush and Cruiserweight Classic standout Mustafa Ali. Plus, the pre-show Halloween battle royal is back!

So get your tickets here (front row & PBR general admission only, regular general admission will only be available at the door) or buy the $5 hard-camera-only live stream on the website— last month’s was much improved, and frankly just a few ticks below full-on iPPV quality.

SWE 6th Anniversary Show (October 29)

Adam Maxted & Bram vs. Alex Gracie & Marshall X
Mark Haskins vs. Robbie X (Kendo Sticks Are Legal)
Cody Rhodes vs. Pete Dunne
Bubblegum vs. Eddie Edwards (c) (TNA World Heavyweight Championship)
Lucha Overground (Matt “Son of Havoc” Cross & Shane “Killshot” Strickland) vs. Stixx ‘n Flips (Chris Tyler & Stixx) (c) (Southside Tag Team Championship)
Alex Windsor vs. Dahlia Black vs. Kay Lee Ray vs. Melina (c) vs. Nixon Newell vs. Toni Storm (Queen of Southside Championship)
El Ligero vs. Joseph Connors (c) (Southside Wrestling Championship Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Match)

Southside Wrestling Entertainment are coming up on their sixth anniversary and they’ve packed the card full to bursting for the occasion. From Eddie Edwards defending his TNA World Heavyweight Championship against the ineffable Bubblegum, to Lucha Underground stars challenging for the tag titles, to the absolutely stacked six-woman title match, it sounds pretty great.

Tickets appear to be sold out, so you’ll just have to wait and check the show out on Southside Wrestling On-Demand.

Alpha-1 Wrestling The Long Halloween (October 30)

Alex Daniels vs. Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham vs. Darin Dinero vs Dominic Garrini vs. Justin Sane vs. Young Myles
Gavin Quinn vs. Jaka vs. Jake Crist

Alpha-1 are back in Hamilton, Ontario for the Long Halloween and they’ve got a night planned with some big debuts. Joey Janela looks to make a splash challenging Kobe Durst for the Alpha Male title, Dezmond Xavier has a high flying dream match against “Speedball” Mike Bailey, and Jaka comes in for three-way action, plus Monster Mafia explodes as Ethan Page and Josh Alexander square off!

Get your tickets here, and VOD here when it goes up.

Progress Wrestling Chapter 38: When Men Thrown Men At Men (October 30)

Hunter Brothers (Jim & Lee Hunter) vs. New Nation (Alexander Henry & Jason Prime)
Shirtlifters (Jack Sexsmith & Roy Johnson) vs. South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper & Travis Banks) (Tables Match)
Pastor William Eaver vs. Paul Robinson
Mark Andrews vs. Matt Cross (Winner is inserted into the Smash Championship match at Smash’s November 11 show)
Jinny vs. Pollyanna (Natural Progression Series IV Progress Women’s Championship Tournament First Round Match)
Rampage Brown (c) issues an open challenge for the Atlas Championship
Mark Haskins (c) vs. Marty Scurll (Progress Championship)

Progress are back in London’s Electric Ballroom for another excellently titled main-series chapter show. They continue to look to the future, with the returning Hunter Brothers taking on the New Nation, plus the Women’s Championship tournament kicks off with a rematch of the feud that put Progress women on the map, Rampage’s open challenge for his Atlas Championship rolls on, and most tantalizingly, that Progress Championship match.

In the listing there, I have it as just Haskins vs. Scurll, but Haskins put in a special request which has not yet been confirmed. Seeing as how Jimmy Havoc has been tormenting the Villain, he’d like Jimmy in the match, but Jimmy’s doctors have not yet given the word that he’s cleared to compete. If they do, he’ll be added to the match!

Tickets are, of course, sold out, but you can take a chance at the official ticket resale outlet or just wait for this bad boy to go up on Demand Progress, although do note that there’ll be a bit of a delay as the office are taking a break in the beginning of November.

Free matches here!

Santana Garrett vs. Veda Scott

Courtesy of the folks over at Women’s Wrestling Revolution, from their Revolutionary event back in July, Santana Garrett and Veda Scott go at it one-on-one. Check it out!

Ace Romero vs. Brian Milonas

In a word: BEEF. From Beyond’s training affiliate, the New England Pro Wrestling Academy, we’ve got two of the northeastern indies’ premier up-and-coming big lads threatening to implode the ring at every turn. It’s all-out HOSS WAR, folks.

ACH vs. Rich Swann

And now for something completely different. Courtesy of AAW, who have just started up a brand new free match of the week program, two of America’s premier flippy dudes had a go two years ago at Path of Redemption.

“War Pig” Jody Kristofferson vs. MVP

Coming to us from California’s awesomely generic sounding Pro Championship Wrestling, don’t be fooled by the intro. There’s a fake-out angle but MVP is indeed wrestling the War Pig, so skip ahead to about 9 minutes if you wanna get right into the match.

Unfortunately a car accident prevented Viking War Party, Davey Vega, and Gary Jay from making the show, but that didn’t stop PWX from putting on what sounds like an excellent show with two big title changes. Plus, the Revolt! grows larger still, with (after a brief fakeout involving Mason Maddox) Darius Lockhart joining the team.

Check it out on the Highspots Wrestling Network when it goes up on VOD, folks.

Wrestling, it’s already up on VOD! Check out the trailer and then go ahead and order yourself two hours of some of the south’s finest.

Smash had an excellent sounding time with their big double header weekend. CANUSA was a sad day for the United States as we fell 4-3 against Canada’s finest, but “Speedball” Mike Bailey picked up a big win over Super Smash Brothers, Cody Rhodes was handed a rare loss at Tyson Dux’s hands, and Brent Banks brought his career total to 3-5 against Scotty O’Shea inside of a steel cage.

Check ‘em out when they go up soon on Smash On Demand, folks.
