Alberto comments on Paige’s suspension, their relationship: ‘We are together and we are happy’

We thought we were going to have to wait until tomorrow (Oct. 11) to maybe hear from Alberto El Patron on the subject of his girlfriend’s second suspension from WWE. Paige is out for the next 60 days after a new violation of the WWE’s Wellness program, and Alberto is appearing on Taz’s radio show in the morning.

ESPN got some comments from him today, however. And the luchador - now going by Alberto “El Presidente” Rodriguez - spoke not only about Paige’s suspension, but also offered his most extensive comments on their relationship since it went public earlier this year.

On the suspension, he doesn’t go into detail. Instead, he backs Paige’s stance from her Tweets in response to WWE’s announcement:

It's just like she said in her statement this afternoon. It's just the same s---, different day my friend.

Regarding their relationship, and fans reaction to it, Rodriguez had this to say:

To be honest, I don't care what they say or what they try to do. We are together and we are happy. I know a lot of people are not happy but regardless of whatever people say, we can be happy. We can be together. And we are going to stay together because we are happy.

If someone is not comfortable or happy about it, we just don't care. We are going to continue our life. Our families are happy and we're happy. That's all that matters.

There’s no arguing with his position. In general, it’s sound. But specifically in the case of their’s and every celebrity’s romance, fans do not know the inner-workings of the relationship. And outsiders bring their own baggage to play when they form (and then often loudly share) their opinions.

Everyone’s entitled to a take, and Rodriguez and Paige know those opinons are out there - it’s a consequence of their fame. But they can’t internalize that into how they deal with each other.

Being happy in any relationship is something to treasure. Good for Paige and Alberto.

Now we’ll wait for more news on why he’s decided to change his name again, what’s next for him in the business and hope things sort themselves out for Paige, her health and her employment status.
