Rumor Look Back: June 27 - July 2, 2015

Welcome to the Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see how they all played out.   But before we get to this week, there's an outstanding rumor that I was waiting for the end of 2015 to officially grade.

January 3, 2015

Del Rio will surely compete in MMA in 2015, but not in the UFC.

This is incorrect. Del Rio did not compete in MMA last year. (0/1)

Now onto this week’s rumors.

June 27, 2015

The Observer notes that USA will air a 2-hour edited episode of Raw prior to Tough Enough to help ratings.

They did. It didn’t help. (1/1)

It doesn’t look like TNA will announce Jeff Jarrett for the Hall of Fame at Slammiversary but he still may still go in.

This is true on both accounts. Referee Earl Hebner was inducted at Slammiversary but later that summer, Jeff Jarrett finally went in as well. (2/2)

The Observer reports Magnus is done with TNA after Slammiversaryand will be announcing soon he is going to GFW.

He announced his signing with GFW a couple days after this rumor, though given the taping schedule of TNA, was still seen on TV for a couple of weeks. (2/2)

June 29, 2015

The Rock’s surprise return during a Boston house show was apparently a one time deal, and we shouldn’t expect him on WWE TV any time soon.

He hasn’t been at a WWE event since, though it’s been recently announced he’ll be at WrestleMania this year. To do what, we don’t know. But he keeps saying he’s going to make history. However that could be getting 93 thousand people to say "Kung Pao Bitch" at once.  (1/1)

The Observer is reporting that Kurt Angle’s surgery for the tumor in his neck is not serious and that he’ll only be out "about three weeks."He could even be at the next set of tapings.

This injury kept Kurt Angle out until Bound for Glory which is in October, especially after some complications soon after that required another surgery. (0/1)

It looks like a lock that there will be a invasion angle between TNA and GFW, though it may not look like what you’re expecting.

They did have an invasion style angle where Jarrett tried to get Dixie to give him control but Drew Galloway was able to identify Karen Jarrett as a mystery attacker before she could. They ended up having a Lethal Lockdown for control of the company that Team TNA won. (1/1)

June 30, 2015

For what it is worth, the indications are that Dolph Ziggler will stay with WWE, and the chances he leaves the promotion are slim to none.

That is correct. The Zig Man is still with WWE. (1/1)

There are more rumors about Triple H pushing the Divas’ division and that includes finally calling up some women from NXT.

While I don’t know what Triple H’s role was (though probably large), the part about the NXT women coming up is true. (1/1)

According to the Observer, some of the wrestlers who have left TNA and are going to GFW are doing so for a "transfer" for the Invasion angle.

None of those who left TNA to go to GFW were part of the Invasion angle. (0/1)

Apparently TNA executives are happy about all of the buzz around the company even knowing it’s all because of Jeff Jarrett and GFW.

I included this rumor because a rumor the next day compliments it well.

July 1, 2015

WWE could be working towards a mixed tag between Rusev and Summer Rae against Dolph Ziggler and Lana. It would be Lana’s first match.

This is one of those that is going to be incorrect because of circumstances. It surely is possible it was heading that way at Night of Champions, but an injury to Lana’s wrist derailed everything. I usually grade things like this as incorrect because things like this are just another reason a rumor may end up not playing out as said. (0/1)

Dave Meltzer is now saying that TNA could not get Ring of Honor to do an invasion angle so that is why they are doing one with GFW.

That would have been pretty cool, though with the way they tape, it wouldn’t have been able to be on both shows. Plus there was word that Jeff Jarrett was the catalyst because he wanted GFW to get some exposure and sold his TNA company shares to do so.

Apparently a representative from Destination America was unhappy that Jeff Jarrett didn’t appear on the format sheet for the taping he appeared on.

So not everyone was happy. Let’s see if their relationship with PopTV is smoother.

July 2, 2015

The Main Event of next year’s WrestleMania is still either The Rock/Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H/Stephanie, The Rock vs. Triple H and Ronda vs. Stephanie separately, or just the Rock vs. Triple H.

While I’m skeptical regarding all of those possibilities, we’ll have to wait and find out.

According to the Observer, Undertaker vs. Sting isn’t going to happen next year because Vince McMahon is "negative on it."

I’d be negative on it myself because I think both guys need someone younger to help carry a good portion of weight in the match. And this was before Sting’s injury in his match with Seth Rollins.

That said Sting is not retired and will be used again in some capacity.

This is true. He had a match for the WWE title against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions. (1/1)

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are currently schedule to return to the next Raw in response to the poor ratings.

Only Triple H was there and in backstage segments only. (1/2)
