Watch Lucha Underground take over ESPN SportsCenter

The push is on for Lucha Underground season two, premeiring tonight at 8PM Eastern on El Rey Network. And the crew from the Temple is out here hustling to make sure they don't have to fight quite so hard for future seasons.

Robert Rodriguez, the self-styled Hollywood "Maverick" behind El Rey, and team have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to using social media and just about any tool they can find to spread the word about the show. This week, that's included prequel comics and now an appearance on the Sports Leader, ESPN.

Basically, they moved Boyle Heights to SportsCenter's Los Angeles studio. Melissa Santos, Rey Mysterio, Johnny Mundo and King Cuerno join Neil Everett and Stan Verrett to talk - and show - what Lucha Underground is all about.

We're still getting used to seeing WWE covered with some regularity on Disney-owned ESPN, so it's really cool to see a smaller player like LU get some love. I do wish they'd brought a non-wrestler along to better answer the "why Lucha Underground is different from WWE" question. Creative mastermind Chris DeJoseph or even play-by-play voice Matt Striker might have sold the unique grindhouse cinematography and pulp narrative that goes along with the hybrid in-ring style to make to show so special.

But this is a tremendous publicity get for a fledgling promotion. Here's hoping they really build on the momentum over the coming weeks.
