Eight men on four teams, some of whom had worked together before. Some pairings even made sense.
The raucous Orlando crowd seemed to support each of the pairings, as The Ascension, The Dudley Boyz, Damien Sandow & Darren Young and Mark Henry & Jack Swagger fought for two entries into tonight's main event, the Royal Rumble match. But they certainly got behind D-Von as he struggled with Konnor after a commercial break.
His brother Bubba got the hot tag, and almost finished Viktor before Swagger broke up the pin. After a 3-D on the same man, the Real American pulled the Dudley boy out, creating an opening by which Henry was able to get the pin.
A story that began when Mizark cut a promo expressing his intent to win the Rumble so he could main event WrestleMania and then retire, only for fans to notice he wasn't even in the match before this match was booked, now turns a page.
It seems unlikely that either or Henry or his makeshift partner will do much damage in the pay-per-view (PPV) main event, but at least they've got a fighting chance.
