Welcome to the Rumor Look Back, where we'll take a trip back in time six months ago to see what rumors were hot at that time. This time a half year ago, the Royal Rumble had happened and some people were angry. Now the rumors focused on some of the backlash from that and the direction headed towards WrestleMania.
As of now, the plan is not to have Reigns turn heel.
Roman is still a face, and recently missing in action from TV. (1/1)
It looks like Rusev and Cena is the direction for WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan may be involved in the corner of Cena.
While Rusev and Cena did have a match at WrestleMania, Hulk Hogan was not involved. He was part of the Sting/Triple H match instead. (1/2)
A Last Man Standing match could be planned for Roman Reigns and Big Show at Fast Lane.
Because of the backlash of Roman winning the Rumble, WWE went with Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns at Fast Lane. Roman and Show did eventually have that Last Man Standing match at Extreme Rules. (0/1)
There is no timetable for Layla’s in ring return.
I posted this because I often find that often something will happen in the news today and then something will be about it in the Rumors 6 months ago. It was only a couple days ago that she announced her retirement. She did have one main event match in April between this and now.
Apparently the #CancelWWENetwork trend did not worry WWE and not many people actually canceled their subscriptions – at least not enough to be concerning.
WWE released a statement hours after the rumor posted after about how well the WWE subs were doing to shut this down. (1/1)
WWE is blaming Philadelphia and not the booking for the reactions at the Rumble.
Yeah, it’s a shame people couldn’t see this reaction coming months prior. (There was even a rumor about WWE being concerned about it just a couple weeks ago.)
Daniel Bryan doesn’t yet have a match planned at WrestleMania.
He was eventually added to the Intercontinental title ladder match, which he won. It’s a damn shame he couldn’t do with the IC title that John Cena is doing with the US.
Undertaker vs. Wyatt is looking to be the WrestleMania plan, but if that doesn’t happen, look for it to be Wyatt vs. Bryan.
Taker vs. Wyatt did happen. But retrospectively, I may have preferred Wyatt vs. Bryan. Wyatt’s feud with the Undertaker, I’m convinced, is what really killed any remainder of his shine.
Word has it WWE hired EVP Lisa Fox Lee to be a tiebreaker between Vince and Triple H.
Yeah, she’s already been fired. Keith had it covered just a few weeks ago.
The word is WrestleManias will still be numbered to keep track, but the numbers won’t appear in the logo because Vince thinks they make them "seem old."
I can’t really grade the reasoning behind it, though that’s a totally Vince thing to do. They didn’t have the number in 31 or for 32. Plus there was a rumor about not calling it "the Grand Daddy of Them all" for the same reason.
It’s an odd reasoning by Vince because the Super Bowl trots on the numbers each time and they talk about tradition. But for some reason, Vince does not want to talk about tradition.
Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton is currently on the table for WrestleMania.
That was the match. And it was maybe the best match on the card when looking at in ring action. (1/1)
Given business is seemingly turning around going into WrestleMania with the Network hitting 1 million subscribers, the Observer notes that there’s at least more of a chance WWE could afford Lesnar.
I don’t know how much the financials played in, but they did re-sign him prior to Mania. (1/1)
Word has it folks within WWE are happy with Kevin Owens, at least concerning is merchandise sales.
Back when the rumors of Kevin Owens’ standings in WWE were positive.
Triple H’s big announcement for Fast Lane expects to be a big tag match involving the likes of Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns along side others
It was to announce Reigns vs. Bryan, so not a tag match and no one else involved. (0/1)
It is not expected that Sting will appear on WWE TV until Fast Lane
That was the case. He had a stare down with Triple H and they agreed to a Mania match (1/1)
Ray Stevens is expected to be the next name announced for the WWE Hall of Fame this year.
He was not an inductee. (0/1)
The Bunny may be gone from WWE TV for good.
The Bunny’s last appearance was December 22. Since Justin Gabriel was the bunny and he had left the company, it makes sense this was done.
Gabriel later talked about all the wild ideas he and Rose came up for with the Bunny that were all shot down (1/1)
While Lesnar and Roman seems set in stone for Mania, a Roman heel turn (possibly a double turn at the show) is a possibility to continue the feud since Lesnar could be sticking around.
The heel turn has not happened. Rollins threw the wrench into the plans and became Brock’s next feud. (0/1)
Goldust vs. Stardust is a possibility for WrestleMania, depending on how the card fills out.
In a disappointing dropped story, this match did not happen at the show. Stardust was in the Intercontinental Creative Has Nothing For You Ladder Match. (0/1)
WWE and TapOut are apparently close to announcing a deal to partner for Pro-Wrestling clothing
That is correct. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials with Charlotte, Roman, and Ziggler (1/1)
Mickie James made a surprising return to TNA in Glasgow but doesn’t look like she’ll be coming back full time.
Tough call on this one. Because that wasn’t the only back for that. She had a story with Magnus for many months that just finished up. So it’s not the one off that that makes this sound. But is she back for good? Since it was not a one off that this rumor was implying, I am going to grade it as incorrect. (0/1)
