If you've been living in a cave, or just have a life, there's been a little bit of an flare-up in the word of hip-hop.
A Philadelphia rapper who goes by Meek Mill tweeted out an accusation that Canadian mega-star Drake doesn't write his own rhymes. The former star of DeGrassi: The Next Generation fired back with a diss record, and when Meek didn't respond, he dropped another, more pointed one.
This lead to a lot of people making fun of Meek, since in a form built on improvised battle rap, you're not supposed to take a week to produce a comeback. Given that there were fake KickStarter's launched to help fund his response, and lots of jokes about how he should get his girlfriend Nicki Minaj to write his track for him, the diss song that was promised for last night needed to come strong.
By almost all accounts, it did not. Even though he and his producers went with The Undertaker's Rest in Peace for his backing beat.
So while Drizzy's Charged Up and especially the follow-up Back to Back got support from all over, Meek's Wanna Know has been getting trolled all day.
And if, like me, you thought Toronto councilman Norm Kelly would be the strangest member of Team Drake to pile on Meek Mill, well...
My son @blade11 showed me the feuding between @meekmill and @champagnepapi I'm glad to see a fellow Canadian walk away with the championship gold around his waist #drake #canadian #ovo #thebestthereiswasandeverwillbe
And in case you think The Hitman is fronting and wouldn't know a sick flow from a High-Fly one, consider that he knows enough to use Drake's OVO owl logo for his post.
But I'm guessing that an old school purist like Bret probably thinks this whole Twitter-based beef is soft. In his day, they were probably pumping No Vaseline in The Dungeon while they tossed around students dressed like Shawn Michaels.
