John Cena and Kevin Owens went at it yet again at tonight's Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The latter won the first meeting at Elimination Chamber, the former won the second encounter at Money in the Bank.
This time the United States championship was on the line.
It's not going anywhere.
Just like the first two matches, they absolutely tore the house down. Actually, in just a few matches, Owens has established himself as one of Cena's greatest opponents. The two have a chemistry he shared with the likes of CM Punk and Edge.
They advanced the story by working in proper counters to big spots. In short, they've learned each other so well, they know how to defend the other's best offense, effectively negating any advantage. Sadly, they didn't focus much attention on Owens expertly maneuvering Cena into a grueling series of matches in the weeks leading up to this show.
Can't have our cake and eat it too, I suppose.
The real key to the success these two share is the fact that they're so unbelievably great at creating false finishes. It always felt hot, like we were right there, and they always took it away. The end was in doubt until the moment it came.
That end was Owens tapping to the STF in the middle of the ring.
