Welcome back to the Rumor Look Back, where we take a look back at the rumors that were dominating the headlines six months ago. Let's get to it.
A Grizzlies NBA game advertised the main event of Fast Lane as Roman Reigns and John Cena vs. Seth Rollins and Big Show. Neither Rollins nor Cena were listed as champ, which could indicate that Brock Lesnar is retaining the title.
This was definitely not the main event of Fast Lane. That was Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns. I doubt this would have been the main event even without the backlash against Roman winning the Rumble. Lesnar did retain his title at the Royal Rumble though. (1/2)
The fact that Wyatt beat Dean Ambrose clean in their feud-ending ambulance match is fueling further speculation that Undertaker will work a match against Wyatt at WrestleMania.
Taker and Wyatt did have a match at WrestleMania. (1/1)
Another rumor regarding the Lunatic Fringe is that they will be turning Ambrose heel.
While these rumors seem to pop up every few months, the Unstable One is still a face and still damn good at it. (0/1)
The new season of Tough Enough seems to be on hold because of cost of producing them.
Not a gradable rumor, but the comments regarding Tough Enough on this rumor was positive. Unfortunately, now that it’s on, a lot of people are finding this format/season of Tough Enough disappointing.
More advertise speculation on Fast Lane: One advertisement mentions "WWE Champion John Cena," implying maybe Cena walks away from the Royal Rumble with the WWE title.
He did not. In fact, he hasn’t held the WWE title since he lost it to Lesnar a little less than a year ago. (0/1)
The fired superstars (Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, and Ryback) are all expected to be back by the Royal Rumble, but it is possible can even be back next Monday.
So they got their jobs back the Monday prior to the Royal Rumble, but did not return that night. They were on the SmackDown prior to the PPV and then the Royal Rumble. Oddly enough, these three guys are all off of WWE TV now for different reasons. (1/2)
TNA reportedly made a play to get Edge to appear on TNA, even if it was a one-time thing on their debut show. He obviously declined.
I just found that rumor interesting. I do look forward to seeing him on The Flash this fall though.
Sting may appear on the Royal Rumble go home Raw next week.
He did. They did that weird they where they showed him on the titantron prior to walking out on stage to stare down Triple H. Six months later, the Sting rumors are back! (1/1)
It looks unlikely that Batista will be back for WrestleMania 31 and there’s at least some possibility he’s done with wrestling in general.
He wasn’t at WrestleMania. I’ll put the rumor regarding retirement in the "Outstanding" rumor column and give that one some time. (1/1)
Apparently the last rumor about John Cena being champ at a house show was a misprint but it could be possible that they jumped the gun.
I’m not going to grade this. I just put it in because it pertained to the rumor further up.
It is being said that Rusev vs. Ryback and Roman Reigns vs. Big Show could be added to the Royal Rumble.
Neither match happened. Rusev and Ryback never actually finished their feud. (0/2)
Nikki Bella vs Natalya for the Divas Title is also a possibility for the Rumble.
There was a Bella Twins vs. Paige/Natalya match instead. (0/1)
Konnan has been talking up getting JR on Lucha Underground.
That has not happened. It’s been Matt Striker and Vampiro the whole time. (0/1)
Bully Ray may be coming back to Impact soon.
It was 4 months until Bully did the one time referee gig and almost 6 months to the day that he finally came back. I wouldn’t count either as "soon." (0/1)
Sting and Undertaker are the favorites for the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame.
I’ll go ahead and put this in the outstanding column as well. I have a feeling Undertaker won’t if he’s going to wrestle the show. But we’ll see.
"All signs" are pointing to Lesnar losing the WWE title at the Royal Rumble. He is likely leaving for MMA in April.
I’m so happy none of these are true and instead we’re watching him fight for the WWE title again today. (0/2)
There’s been some speculation that CM Punk will make his UFC debut at their July show in Chicago. Though they say they want him to train extensively for 6 months before even broaching the idea of the fight.
These rumors sure butt heads. No, he’s not fighting anywhere this month. I’ll grade the other half of the rumor as correct. (1/2)
JR and Matt Striker could call the NJPW Invasion Attack
NJPW fans please correct me if I am wrong, but I did not find anything about either man calling this event. (0/1)
AJ Lee is expected back on TV imminently.
AJ returned March 2nd, which I would not consider imminently. (0/1)
While the Elimination Chamber is dead as a PPV, it may not be dead as a gimmick.
It wasn’t dead as a PPV. They had a pretty damn good show in May. (0/1)
Cesaro and Tyson Kidd have been training at the Performance Center to come up with some tag team spots.
They had some pretty damn good tag spots. They’ve won matched with the swing into the drop kick. (1/1)
Despite a new TV deal, morale is still low in the TNA locker room. Some still feel 2015 could be the last year for the promotion.
Usually I don’t grade these. However, given remarks by Taz and Magnus, I will grade this correctly. Six months ago, I would have thought this unnecessary doom and gloom. But now 2015 actually could be the last year of the promotion. (1/1)
