Rumor Roundup (Jan. 18, 2015): NXT-ROH deal, Battleground matches, lame duck SmackDown, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • According to the Observer, there are a lot of "significant" moves being made behind-the-scenes involving Ring of Honor and NXT and they'll become evident soon.
  • It's possible Nikki Bella vs. Paige (with some involvement from the rest of the teams we saw on Raw) and Rusev vs. Cesaro will be added to Battleground.
  • Not surprisingly, the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there is a mentality within WWE that SmackDown is a lame duck show on SyFy and that's why it has been so creatively bankrupt of late. That should change in January.
  • According to the Observer, NXT Takeover: Brooklyn has already sold more tickets than the previous record for an NXT show, the San Jose event before WrestleMania.
  • TNA talent are apparently now being told that the company will survive based on money from TV deals overseas while they shop for a new network after they leave Destination America.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Just remember they are rumors and not confirmed as fact, so please take them as such. Have fun with it.
