Ring of Honor announces plans for WrestleMania 2016 week in Texas

ROHWrestling.com

First an Undertaker sighting, and now this. It's WrestleMania week in July!

Ring of Honor (ROH) has been taking their show on the road to the site of WWE's Springtime extravaganza since 2012 and, beginning in 2013, the event they've brought has been Supercard of Honor.

Earlier today, ROH sent word that the 2016 edition, Supercard of Honor X, is coming to the North Texas area once ruled by World Class Championship Wrestling in the beginning of April to cater to the huge audience of worldwide wrestling fans who will be part of the record-setting crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on the 3rd. In addition to that event on Friday night, the company will have a taping for its Destination America ROH TV series on Saturday at the same venue.

Saturday's show is scheduled for the afternoon, which will keep it clear of WWE's big event on that day, the Hall of Fame Ceremony. Continuing to hold Supercard of Honor on Friday night seems likely to put ROH and NXT in direct competition again, as they'll be on SummerSlam weekend in New York when Field of Honor goes head-to-head with TakeOver: Brooklyn.

WWE hasn't announced any plans for Friday yet, but given the success of NXT's San Jose shows and the move toward fronting major pay-per-view (PPV) weekends with that brand, ROH brass probably expect to share the date.

With hundreds of thousands fans in an already huge metropolitan area, selling out a hotel ballroom should not be a problem. And announcing first forces fans to pick a known show over a possible one.

Supercard of Honor is not usually broadcast on traditional or internet PPV, but past editions have been made available for on demand streaming later.

Here's the announcement, which includes ticket information (sales start this week!):
