Report: Sami Zayn likely undergoing shoulder surgery today

According to PW Insider, Sami Zayn is in Birmingham, Alabama today and it's likely to undergo surgery for the shoulder injury that he aggravated before his match with John Cena on Monday Night Raw a couple weeks ago.

Actually, the report indicates the injury has been bothering Zayn for some time now, even before he ever signed a contract with WWE to work in NXT. That would mean surgery was only a matter of time, especially with how popular he's become during his run up to the NXT title.

If he's to have a successful run on the main roster, now is the time to get nagging ailments taken care of.

WWE has yet to officially report on Zayn's status outside of the injury angle they ran at the NXT Takeover: Unstoppable event when Kevin Owens used another apron powerbomb to put Zayn out. There's also no timetable set for Sami's return but he's not expected back anytime soon.

Tough day for NXT stars (and their shoulders).
