The main event of tonight's Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV) at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, featured Seth Rollins putting his WWE world heavyweight championship on the line against Randy Orton in a steel cage match. The RKO, by the way, was banned, and Kane was chosen as "guardian of the gate."
The story was just as much about Kane and where his allegiance would lie than Orton being an actual threat to the title.
The match itself featured the usual slow rolling trek of each wrestler attempting to climb up and out of the cage, or simply walking out the door. Orton had the edge for much of the match, even hitting a Pedigree to a thunderous pop, before attempting to exit and running into Kane slamming the door on him.
Then, chaos.
Rollins hit a dropkick into the door that went into Kane but only because Orton moved out of the way. That led to Kane losing his mind and climbing into the ring, where J&J Security attempted to stop him but were choke slammed for their efforts. Instead of following through on attacking Rollins, however, Kane hit a choke slam on Orton, seemingly indicating he was siding with The Authority.
Then he choke slammed Rollins.
Then he put Rollins on top of Orton, who kicked out of the ensuing pinfall attempt. Kane came back in to finish the job but Orton fired off an RKO, followed closely by Rollins hitting an RKO of his own on Randy before rolling out of the cage to win the match.
And still your WWE world heavyweight champion.
