Rusev rode into tonight's WrestleMania pay-per-view (PPV) extravaganza in style, showing up in a TANK with the Russian flag waving high and the United States championship around his waist. He was also reunited with Lana for his battle with John Cena at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The story of the match was that Rusev would overpower Cena but the American would draw from the fact that he's American (apparently, based on how they booked this) and continue to get back up.
Never give up and all that.
For its part, the crowd chanted "Let's go Lana" at various points. They turned back to the match when Cena hit a stunner off the second rope and the announce team freaked out pointing out his evolution as a pro wrestler. His comeback was short lived, however, when Rusev locked in The Accolade and he looked ready to submit.
But of course not.
Instead, he powered out and before you knew it, Cena had Rusev in the STF. Lana got up on the apron in an attempt to help but when Rusev rushed over to Cena, who had gone over to her, Cena moved and Lana was knocked off the apron. An AA later and that was that.
John Cena is the new US champion.
