In a recent interview with TSN's Off the Record, former UFC star Chael Sonnen claimed he received a call from WWE at some point and an invitation was sent out for the upcoming WrestleMania 31 pay-per-view on Mar. 29, 2015, in Santa Clara, California. And, apparently, he's not the only one WWE called:
"I got a call from WWE. They said, ‘Look, we have a Hall of Fame show in March. If you want to come out, we want to talk to you about some stuff.' They laid out at that. If they are buying me a plane ticket and they're giving me a ticket to the show, I do enjoy that product. I don't know what we are talking about, but I'll give you a little bit of a scoop: Wanderlei Silva was also invited. I don't know if he's accepted and I don't know if the two are related, but there you go."
For those unaware, UFC had tried to book a Sonnen vs. Silva fight after the two coached a season of The Ultimate Fighter but it never came to fruition when Silva was injured and Sonnen failed a drug test, retiring from MMA shortly thereafter.
WWE, for its part, denied all this talk in a statement released to PW Insider:
"There has been no invitation from WWE for Chael Sonnen to attend WrestleMania."
That doesn't necessarily mean there hasn't been talk between the two sides but Sonnen is a notorious fibber and it would come as no surprise if this was just another one of his tall tales.
