Moving to quickly capitalize on the buzz created by Samoa Joe's exit from TNA and return to the company he helped found, that company, Ring of Honor (ROH) has announced that Joe will be on their 13th Anniversary show this Sunday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The March 1st show is one of ROH's occasional pay-per-view (PPV) offerings, and represents a big kick-off to the busiest month on pro wrestling's calendar (the Sinclair Broadcasting-owned promotion will also have their usual presence at WrestleMania weekend in Northern California with their Friday, March 27th Supercard of Honor IX event in Redwood City, California - one of Joe's already announced match dates).
ROH handled another big signing, former WWE champ Alberto El Patrón (del Rio), in a similar fashion, with a microphone segment that was used to set up programs with regular roster members. That process was laid out on a longer timeframe, however. Joe will make his ROH television return less than two weeks after announcing his departure from TNA, his home for the last decade.
"He has something to say, and wants the world to hear it," says the hype piece on ROHWrestling.com. What he probably won't say is there are more announcement's in Joe's future. Conventional wisdom has it that he'll follow the blueprint laid out by El Patrón and fellow TNA expatriate AJ Styles by signing with Lucha Underground, New Japan, or both. There are also still reports floating around that the Samoan Submission Machine's stay on the indies could be brief, with WWE as a final destination.
Regardless, it will be cool to see Joe back in the place he and guys like CM Punk made famous, even if just for a little while. Here's the remainder to the 13th Anniversary show. Look for a more detailed preview tomorrow, and a results and open thread on Sunday.
