Obviously the biggest debut news for many coming out of tonight's NXT tapings at Full Sail in Orlando, Florida is the first appearance in WWE for former TNA star "Cowboy" James Storm, but with the results of the taping, it looks like the new feeder system that Triple H discussed is wide open, albeit from SHINE Wrestling on this night, rather than Evolve.
Here are all the spoilers for the next few weeks worth of shows:
Show 1
- The show opens with a promo by the Doctor of Huganomics, Bayley, thanking everyone for their support. Her celebration is short lived as she's interrupted by Alexa Bliss and her boys, and Alexa snatches Bayley's title belt expressing her intent to challenge the Hugster before tossing the belt back.
- The first match sees the Vaudevillains defeat Sawyer Fulton and Angelo Dawkins.
- Next, the vignettes are finally over, and Nia Jax makes her long awaited debut against... New Zealand's own, Evie, who is stateside for SHINE 30 and SHIMMER Weekend. I am so, so excited about this, even though Nia Jax made short work of the affable Kiwi. On the positive side, they did have a titantron for her.
For those not familiar with Evie, she received a tryout with WWE in August of 2014 at the tryout where Billie Kay and Peyton Royce were signed, and it seems like she remains on WWE's radar.
In addition to working in Australia and New Zealand, she's one of the fastest rising stars in SHIMMER, going from a 5 way debut match at SHIMMER 53 to challenging for their championship 16 shows later by turning in great performances and quickly winning over the SHIMMER faithful. She has also made various appearances with SHINE. Really a tremendous wrestler, and has the same innate likability that the current women's champion possesses. Here's hoping this is the first of many appearances because she has a boatload of potential.
- The show closes with the number one contender's Battle Royal, featuring Samoa Joe, Rhyno, Baron Corbin, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Apollo Crews, Scott Dawson, Dash Wilder, Enzo Amore, Colin Cassady, Bull Dempsey, Zack Ryder, Mojo Rawley, Tyler Breeze, Blake, Murphy, and Tye Dillinger among others.
The final four comes down to Corbin, Crews, Joe, and Breeze. Joe manages to eliminate Breeze, but Breeze returns the favor and eliminates him. In the end, Crews emerges victorious by eliminating Corbin, and is the new number one contender.
Show 2
- Asuka finds her next victim in a SHIMMER Volume 54 rematch against Billie Kay. She wins with the Asuka Lock.
- The Realest Guys in the room take on the former Mechanics of Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder. Enzo gets the win, but after the match they take a beatdown from Dawson and Wilder.
- As already posted, next up, former TNA champion "Cowboy" James Storm makes his NXT debut! He defeats Martin Stone.
- Alexa Bliss is out for a match this time, defeating Peyton Royce. She cuts a post match promo about coming for Bayley's belt. The boos were allegedly deafening for the leader of BAMF.
- The show closes with Baron Corbin taking on Rhyno, who Corbin eliminated from the Battle Royal. Corbin kicks out of the Gore and wins the match with the End of Days.
Show 3
- Emma is out for the opening match and takes on Australia's Shazza McKenzie, regular tag team partner of Veda Scott, also in the states for SHINE and SHIMMER. Emma comes out on top with the Emma Lock.
- In what was pretty much universally considered the best match of the tapings, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa took on Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. Jordan and Gable won with the Grand Amplitude.
- And in yet another television debut, Scotland's Kay Lee Ray is Nia Jax's next victim.
Kay Lee Ray is another fast rising star in SHIMMER, winning the Chickfight Tournament at SHIMMER 71 on Wrestlemania weekend this past year. She's very young, has a very exciting and fast paced in-ring style and has a fantastic look, so I could definitely see her on WWE's radar in the future.
- Enzo and Cass come out but are attacked once again by Dawson & Wilder. They attack Big Cass's knee, and he needs medical attention. It seems like it's an injury angle.
- Next, Samoa Joe faced Tyler Breeze, looking for retribution from the Battle Royal. Breeze fell to the Coquina Clutch.
- Finally, in the taping main event, Finn Balor battled "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger in what was also called a great match by those in attendance. Finn won with the Coup De Gras.
For anyone curious, it's not clear at this time what the status is on the three female debuts and whether this was just using non-contract talent that was in town, or whether they have long term plans for any or all of them.
