The rumor mill is running rampant with possible challengers for John Cena's United States championship at tonight's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, so let's see whose name has come up.
Remember, these are purely rumors, so take these with a heavy grain of salt.
-
Tyler Breeze: He made his main roster debut on SmackDown this week. Defeating Cena would not only give Breeze a good bit of momentum to kick start his run on the main roster, but it would also add some actual stakes with his feud with Dolph Ziggler. As of this moment, Breeze is not booked for anything tonight.
- Sheamus: He is currently booked as Cena's opponent when the latter returns from his upcoming break from WWE. However, this would involve Sheamus pulling double-duty tonight as he is booked to be in the kickoff match when he teams with King Barrett and Rusev to take on Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, and Neville.
- Samoa Joe: He's in Sacramento, CA to represent NXT at the Aftershock Music Festival. Sacramento is only 90 minutes from Los Angeles via plane, so WWE could incorporate him fairly quickly if they wanted to. He could also bring in a surprise hometown pop since he is billed from Huntington Beach, CA.
- Daniel Bryan: Scott Keith is reporting that Bryan was en route to Los Angeles. As you may remember, Bryan had been facing a myriad of issues stemming from concussions, even bringing up retirement if a third neurologist wouldn't clear him to compete in the ring. The rumor is that Bryan has been cleared to return to an active wrestling role for the first time since before Extreme Rules.
At the moment, that is all I have aside from the insanely out-there rumors such as AJ Styles and James Storm. Sound off in the comments below about what you think or if you have heard anything about tonight's challengers.
