A couple of days ago, we reported that Myzteziz (aka the original Mistico & Sin Cara) had shocked the Mexican wrestling world by appearing at CMLL's Arena Mexico show on Friday night unannounced, and telling reporters afterwards that he wanted to finish up with AAA and make his way back to CMLL full time.
On his subscriber only radio show today, Dave Meltzer had a detailed update on this strange situation, which included the following:
- Myzteziz's two brothers, Argenis and Argos, have also quit AAA now too. This will cause Lucha Underground a headache as Argenis is currently a holder of their Trios Championship as a member of the The Disciples of Death under the name Barrio Negro. As Lucha Underground only uses Mexican talent affiliated with AAA, this likely means that Argenis won't appear on their second season next year.
- At the time of Meltzer's show, AAA had not publicly responded to Myzteziz's actions, which led Meltzer to believe that AAA were considering legal action against Myzteziz for breach of contract.
- AAA management didn't know about Myzteziz's move until they were tipped off that he was in the locker-room of Arena Mexico, just a few hours before he appeared in front of the fans. Apparently, they are privately seething at him, as he attempted to encourage other AAA wrestlers to jump ship with him.
- A factor in Myzteziz's departure was the heat between him and Alberto Del Rio (aka Alberto El Patrón), which saw Alberto threaten to beat Myzteziz up when he saw him at TripleMania on Twitter. The tension between the two was so bad that they had to be kept apart and dress in different sides of the building when they appeared on the same show together since that time. As suspected, being positioned as the third biggest star in AAA behind Alberto and Rey Mysterio, whilst CMLL doesn't have a young babyface who can match his star power, likely also played a part.
- Myzteziz hasn't made any of his AAA bookings since Friday night, despite citing a desire to complete his dates, likely because AAA wanted to wash their hands of him.
Since Meltzer's audio report, AAA has published an official statement on the matter announcing that Myzteziz had left the company, but that they owned the rights to the Myzteziz name. The wording of the statement suggests that they won't sue Myzteziz unless he continues to use the gimmick, as the departure was framed as a mutual agreement between both sides. Losing his current name shouldn't be a problem for Myzteziz, as returning to CMLL will allow him to use his more famous Mistico moniker again.
