When it was revealed that Brock Lesnar would be the latest star to challenge Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30 last year in New Orleans, few gave "The Beast" any realistic shot at winning.
WWE used its television time all throughout the lead up to the actual match to tell us that he did. Not only that, but that he was going to be the guy to beat the streak.
And then he did.
There's no way to properly convey the shock wave sent throughout the Mercedes-Benz Superdome when the referee hit the mat a third time with Lesnar still on top of Undertaker, one leg hooked, shoulders still down. That was it. It was over. When the referee signaled to ring the bell, fans thought he may have been calling off the pin. The implication was clear.
This had to be a mistake.
Later, rumors would circulate that Lesnar went into business for himself. Those rumors were proven false rather quickly, of course, and were always silly, but that was the depth of disbelief this event caused.
That's why it was the "Moment of the Year" in 2014.
